Job description

WUNGENING ABORIGINAL CORPORATION - Healing Mind, Body & Spirit

ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER PEOPLE ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO APPLY.

Our organisation is committed to protecting children and young people from harm. We require all applicants to undergo an extensive screening process prior to appointment.

ABOUT OUR AOD PROGRAM - NGALLA WIRRIN WUNGENING (OUR SPIRIT HEALING)

Ngalla Wirrin Wungening (Our Spirit Healing) delivers alcohol and other drug healing practices, through:

  • Aboriginal Ways
  • Flexible Services
  • Authentic Connections

We offer support to individuals with alcohol and other drug challenges themselves, and to families who need support for someone else’s use. Support options include one-to-one counselling, group work, and outreach services where we engage with clients in the community.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Group Facilitator is a central component to the delivery of the AOD Support Ngalla Wirrin Wungening (Our Spirit Healing) model.

The Group Facilitator works collaboratively within a dedicated team to deliver the entire ‘Healing Journey’. The primary function of this role is to facilitate groups, primarily relating to ‘Own Use’ and ‘Other’s Use’, as per the below examples.

Solid Ground

  • A facilitated daily themed group meeting working where participants collaborate and provide peer to peer lived experience support, supported by recovery coaching and counselling from a Strong Spirit Strong Mind lens.

Higher Ground

  • A program for participants who have been through Solid Ground, providing collaborative support to maintain and develop recovery goals and strategies. The group is co-facilitated with participants.

Djin Djin

  • A culturally responsive, empowerment-based, information and support group program for Aboriginal families struggling with a loved ones’ problematic AOD use. The aim of this program is to strengthen and empower families, through providing information and support within the context of their needs.

Who’s Ya Mob?

  • A program that encourages young people to self-evaluate, identify the risk of AOD and work towards building resilience and accountability. The program content is designed to assist in making better choices and avoiding a criminally entrenched pathway.

The Group Facilitator is part of the AOD Support Team and also provides AOD Counselling, as required.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Experience providing group facilitation in a relevant setting.
  • Commitment to providing an engaging and collaborative group environment.
  • Commitment to providing AOD services in a culturally strong and safe way.

  • Knowledge of challenges and services from an AOD context.
  • Understanding of, and commitment to working to key performance indicators.
  • Developed computer skills, including Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Teams.
