Wesley Home Modifications & Maintenance

  • full-time position (38 hours/week)
  • based in Ermington, NSW and servicing the Nepean, Western Sydney and Inner West regions

About the program

Wesley Home Modifications and Maintenance Services (WHMMS) has provided building modification and maintenance services to support people living with a disability and the elderly to remain independent in their own homes for more than 20 years.

About the role

This role supports WHMMS to deliver a high-quality service to the most in need in our communities. As per the position description, this role would undertake a range of general maintenance and minor modification tasks. You would be part of a team bringing renewed independence to those we serve.

Reporting to the Building Works Supervisor you will be actively completing installations requested and approved by our client base. The candidate would need to be able to deliver excellent levels of customer service whilst being skilled with hand and powered tools in order to undertake a range of tasks including but not limited to handrails, grabrails and ramps.

Support provided to customers through this role will involve customer facing consultations, trade installation explanations and requests and would also involve the use of various IT platforms, as well as reporting customer feedback and information about the service they have received into those systems.

This position requires a motivated individual with good customer service, communication and trade skills, and attention to detail. You will be able to offer solutions to the team regarding customer problems and ensure the service brand is maintained.

Essential skills/knowledge

  • have demonstrated experience undertaking general maintenance tasks in a paid role
  • deliver a high quality of work and customer service
  • a current Class C (minimum) NSW Drivers Licence
  • be able to drive a vehicle to various job sites to undertake clients work
  • understand safe work practices
  • work to set timeframes to complete jobs in a timely and efficient manner
  • be able to work with other Wesley staff on larger maintenance or modifications jobs
  • complete necessary paperwork and computerised reporting and recording of completed works
  • computer literacy including proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite of programs along with the ability to use computerised devices such as iPhone, iPad and laptop or desktop computers
  • ability to follow direction to complete assigned tasks
  • an ability to set priorities and to achieve them through good time management skills
  • skilled with hand and powered tools
  • ability to work as part of a team and individually
  • strong and clear communication skills both written and verbal
  • understanding of and ability to implement safe work practices
  • knowledge of Australia Building Standards.

Desirable skills/knowledge

  • trades qualifications in Carpentry or a related field
  • good problem-solving skills and the ability to refer to departmental guidelines and procedures
  • an understanding of the issues faced by people with a disability and with the frail and elderly in the context of Home Modifications and living independently
  • experienced in construction of access ramps
  • knowledge & experience in Home Modification & Maintenance Services
  • First Aid certificate or willingness to undertake First Aid training
  • not for profit or cause related management experience.
