Job description

At Burdekin, we are a not for profit organisation who believes every young person has the right to a life that offers opportunities to fulfil their potential. Our priority is to prevent youth homelessness and family breakdown by providing a range of accommodation, care and support services to young people and their families across Sydney.

If you can confidently tackle most basic repair jobs, have some experience in Property Maintenance and can communicate well, particularly with young people, you may be our new Handyperson!

Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

• Perform general maintenance and repairs to our residential properties such as patching and painting walls, repairing flyscreens, minor plumbing repairs, lawn mowing, etc.

• Recognise when a repair may be beyond your expertise and escalate the issue to a qualified tradesperson for quoting.

• Co-ordinate deliveries with contractors and suppliers.

• Conduct regular property inspections to identify maintenance needs.

• Respond to urgent work orders as required.

• Occasional furniture removalist duties and heavy lifting.

• Maintain accurate records of completed works and WHS issues in our digital property management system.

• Utilise either our company van or your personal vehicle (with provided car allowance) for transportation within the Sydney metro area.

• Ensure all work is completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard of quality.

Essential Requirements:

• Experience as a maintenance or handyperson preferably in Out of Home Care, aged care or similar sector

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to interact professionally with clients and stakeholders including the young people residing at our properties.

• Demonstrated problem-solving and time management skills and the ability to work independently.

• Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality skilled work.

• Willing to travel across Sydney as required, often at short notice.

• Possess a valid driver's license.

• Current Working with Children Check and National Police Check or willing to obtain.

What we offer:

• Flexible part-time or full-time position.

• Access to company tools (if required) and resources.

• Car allowance provided if using personal vehicle for work-related travel.

• Staff discounts on entertainment, travel and retail

• Salary package $15,900 tax free income on top of your salary

• Additional day's leave to care for your own well-being

• An opportunity to be a part of a growing team with a leading not-for-profit organisation

• Free independent counselling service

If you’re ready to make a difference in the lives of young people and put your handy skills to good use, apply now!
