Due to increases in our ongoing project works, we are currently seeking a number of experienced HDD Rig hands available for a 2/1 roster FIFO .

Our HDD Rig Hands are responsible for assisting the operation of the horizontal directional drill and associated ground equipment for Cape Dunstans Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Projects. Key responsibilities include handling drill pipe and down-hole equipment, wire-lining, maintaining the rig floor and operation of HDD related equipment such as pumps.

The role will include:
  • Loading and unloading drill pipe from the directional drilling rig.
  • Completing wireline connections.
  • On-going inspection and cleaning of down-hole tooling including threads and connections.
  • Ensuring down hole tooling not in use is cleaned and has caps on all threads/connections.
  • Monitoring fluid returns to the entry pit and reporting to the Driller.
  • Monitoring performance of the high-pressure mud pump and associated rig floor equipment.
  • Undertaking daily pre-start checks of equipment (e.g., pumps) and notifying the Leading Hand/HDD Supervisor of any breakdowns, repairs or maintenance required.
  • Maintenance of communication with Drillers at all times, and responsible for notifying Driller and/or Supervisor of any issues or incidents.
  • Notifying the Leading Hand/HDD Supervisor of materials, consumables, parts, and spares required.
  • Assisting in setting up, packing up and cleaning of drilling plant and equipment.
  • Undertaking other tasks to assist in the drilling operations as directed by the Leading Hand or HDD Supervisor.
  • Following all procedures, SWMS and instructions required for any given tasks, and ensuring individual compliance with all safety, environmental and quality requirements.
  • All tasks completed safely and correctly.
  • Drilling equipment and tooling kept clean and protected.
  • Communication always maintained with Driller.
  • Housekeeping around the rig floor maintained.
  • Follow required HSE procedures and address and identify HSE risks/incidents within work area.
  • Ensure Take 5s and JHAs completed as required for the role.
Qualifications, experience and skills required:
  • Australian Construction Induction Card.
  • Certificate II in Drilling (including unit of competency Assist Horizontal Directional Drilling). (Assistance can be provided to complete this course).
  • High Risk Work License - Dogging.
  • Excavator ticket, forklift license, crane (CN) license, truck license desirable.
  • At least 12 months experience in a similar position required.
  • Must be able to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Basic knowledge of drilling equipment is desirable.
  • Must be able to perform manual handling and manual duties for shifts of up to 12 hours.
  • Must be willing to travel and work onsite at locations across Australia on a project roster.
  • Must be eligible to work in Australia.
  • Must be able pass a pre-employment Fitness for Work assessment and comply with Cape Dunstans Fitness for Work requirements during employment, including drug and alcohol limits.
