About the Project

The project is to study the remediation method for PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) contaminated soils, which are widely distributed in all developed countries. Foam fractionation will be used to remove PFAS from soil in this study. Increasing PFAS removal efficiency is the core of the study. To realize this target, three approaches will be focused

A. Optimisation of fractionation conditions, 

B. Research on removal efficiency enhancement by assistant facilities, and

C. Verification of performance on pilot tests and identification of engineering requirements – scale up issues

Required Disciplinary Knowledge

Candidate with chemical engineering, chemistry or soil treatment background would be preferred. 

Additional Information

This opportunity is offered to Domestic (Australian citizens, or for those who have been granted permanent resident status, including New Zealand citizens who are granted permanent residency status on arrival) and international applicants for a Doctor of Philosophy degree.

The successful applicant will be supported through the VU INSPIRED program. This includes a tax-exempt stipend scholarship ($37,752 p.a., full-time study 2024 rate), a tuition fee offset and additional allowances.  All applicants who are made an offer and accept must present in Melbourne by the stipulated enrolment date.

The successful applicant will undertake an industry placement with the Industry Partner for 6 months during their studies.
