On behalf of The Green Gallery which are a wholesale production nursery that supplies independent garden centres, wholesale nurseries, landscapers, florists, greenwall installers, indoor plantscapers, online sellers, councils and other institutions based in Mangrove Mountain NSW 2250.  We are conducting a search for dedicated and skilled Head Grower / Horticulture Grower / Nurseryperson position to work for us.

Position Responsibilities and Tasks for Horticuture Growers

  • Conduct production plans in-line with general production goals for retail market (depending on each season) and specific contract grows. This requires knowing what to plant and when; which crops will require space and how much; which crops will require trimming or plant growth regulators; and calculating the amount and cost of inputs that will be required, such as pots, soil, labour, fertiliser, PGRs, etc.
  • Coordinate and execute tasks related to the production and marketing of crops, considering costs and financial efficiency.
  • Maintain optimal growing conditions through IPM and nutrition strategy as well as irrigation management while generating cost/benefit reports for future assessment.
  • Organise the sale and dispatch of plant orders in accordance with the company's quality standards.
  • Apply and monitor a Customer Relationship Management program.
  • Supervise the company’s internal marketing strategy to ensure that all areas operate in a coordinated and standardised way. Encourage collaboration and provide staff with information about ongoing projects.
  • Act as a communication channel for staff to provide feedback.
  • Design and direct trials for research and development (R&D).
  • Evaluate the company’s strategic business unit portfolio and give advice on resources allocation accordingly.
  • Select, train and manage staff as required.
Position Responsibilities and Tasks for Nurseryperson
  • Plant care and maintenance to ensure optimal health and quality.
  • Inventory management to track and maintain stock levels.
  • Order fulfillment, including accurate packaging and timely shipment.
  • Customer service, providing assistance and information to clients.
  • Facility maintenance to keep nursery areas clean and organized.
  • Record keeping to maintain accurate inventory and sales records.
  • Quality control to uphold standards for plant health and appearance.
  • Collaboration with team members to achieve common goals.
  • Adaptability to changing work priorities and seasonal demands.
  • Compliance with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Relevant qualifications or
  • A minimum of three years' experience in a similar role.
  • In-depth understanding of various plant species, including their growth requirements, cultivation techniques, and pest control methods.
  • Proficient in plant propagation techniques such as seeding, grafting, and cloning to ensure a consistent and healthy plant stock.
  • Knowledge of soil composition, fertilization, and irrigation practices to optimize plant health and growth.
  • Ability to identify and address common pests and diseases affecting plants, employing integrated pest management strategies.
  • Skills in planning and scheduling planting cycles to ensure a continuous and productive supply of horticultural products.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining horticultural equipment such as tractors, cultivators, and irrigation systems.
  • Keen attention to detail in monitoring plant health, identifying abnormalities, and implementing corrective measures.
  • Understanding of relevant regulations and compliance standards in horticulture, including environmental regulations and safety protocols.
Salary:
The role offers a remuneration package ranging from $70,000 - $90,000, plus superannuation for a 38-hour work week.
