Job Description
The Head of Category is a senior leader within the Category & Commercial Strategy function. The purpose of this role is to create and drive the longer term vision for Category growth as well as support the delivery of the commercial objectives of the business while bringing the external reality to the organisation as the voice of the customer and consumer. Doing this will require a strong cross-functional understanding that ensures Sales, Finance, Marketing, Supply Chain and R&D are engaged, enrolled and motivated to support an outstanding Go-To-Market execution.
This will be further complemented by a deep understanding of shopper, category and the retailers that enable the business to anticipate their needs while enrolling key external stakeholders in KCA’s vision. Given the breadth of contacts and size of the agenda, this role will require outstanding interpersonal skills that are able to flex to the given needs of the individual and situation being worked on at any point in time.
Drive the creation and delivery of Category Strategies outlining the vision for category growth over a 12 – 36 month time horizon.
Lead the category annual planning process that brings together the upcoming 12-month innovation plan, category growth drivers, shopper trends, retailer performance, promotion planning, channel choices, Key Business Drivers (DPSM), JBP financials as well as investment sufficiency. This will be rolled up into a strategy plan that sets the 5 Must Win Areas, Where To Play and How To Win choices.
Support creation and delivery of innovation through outstanding in-store and online execution.
Leads the DPSM strategy that sets out clear expectations around core ranges, layouts, SPIs, promotional competitiveness by channel
Support Go-To-Market participation in the S&OP and Annual Business Planning process, working with their team and the Sector Leaders to ensure market competitiveness, trade investment management and gap fill planning.
Work with key leaders across the business to formulate the Go-To-Market plan for each sector in conjunction with their team with a priority on the upcoming 12 months but extending out to the 24-36 month innovation plan.
Clear prioritisation of brand and category activity by customer which ensures flawless execution. Aligning with both Marketing and Sales Leadership Teams and the ANZ Executive Leadership Team
Build capability cross-functionally to help generate a stronger awareness and understanding of what it takes to win with key retail partners in Australia

About You

Experience, Skills and Knowledge:
Proven ability to lead, enroll and support high-performing cross functional teams that openly embrace the diversity and unique experiences of KCA Australia
Clear strategic and category development experience ideally gained in a sophisticated market with demanding customers and developed channels
Strong commercial experience working closely with major retailers in Australia and/or abroad. Ideally this includes direct account responsibility with a world class Retailer
Advanced business acumen and management, with the ability to navigate financial challenges that ultimately lead to benefit for KCA and retailers alike
In-store merchandise experience with an ability to piece together layout proposals that delight shoppers and drive category growth
Consumer and/or Shopper Insights experience
Strong coaching / people management experience of large teams
Strong Performance on living KCA Leadership Expectations
Ability to identify and build capability in others
Outstanding track record of enrolling the support of others to elevate the organization’s performance
