Head of Finance and Operations

Join a leading residential College dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive environment for emerging adults. With a focus on fostering diversity and individual growth, we are seeking a dynamic Finance and Operations Manager to join their team.

You will play a pivotal role in overseeing financial operations, building capital expenditure and construction works, and contributing to the vibrant culture of the College.

Role Overview:

As Head of Finance and Operations, you will be responsible for financial functions, asset protection, management of financial risks and oversight of operations. Leading a small and dedicated team, you will work to deliver operational strategy that enhances the College and its offering.

This role will include involvement in major capital works projects, within a heritage listed site.

Reporting to the CEO, and working with the Board, you will ensure Union College is able to make informed decisions via your reporting, you’ll work closely with a very engaged Operations Manager to ensure strong performance, improved practice, and a positive environment.

As a Leader, you’ll be solution focused, growth minded and committed to excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead capital works projects, ensuring compliance with heritage regulations.
  • Manage facilities and operations across the college, with a commitment to safety and wellbeing of all students.
  • Build and maintain relationships with major stakeholder groups, e.g.: The University of Queensland etc.
  • Focus on finance reporting and compliance, including BAS, Instalment Activity Statements, Audits, Income Tax, Fringe Benefits etc.
  • Understand and address the needs of college life, fostering a supportive and engaging environment for residents.
  • Work on strategy with the CEO to develop and implement plans that will result in continued success and growth of the College.
  • Lead a team with commitment to promoting diversity and support inclusive practices, focusing on a culture of safety.
  • Act as the Executive On-Call during evenings and weekends (rostered), handling emergencies and critical incidents as needed.
  • Uphold professional standards and provide support to staff with inspiring leadership.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of building maintenance, construction, and capital works projects.
  • Ability to navigate complex regulatory environments, particularly heritage regulations.
  • Proven experience with reporting at Board and Executive Level within the Finance space.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible approach to work hours and availability for on-call responsibilities.
  • Ability to handle challenging situations with kindness, emotional maturity, and professionalism.
