pitt&sherry is an Australian-owned engineering and Environmental consultancy. Since 1963, we have been delivering engineering and Environmental consulting, advisory and project management services throughout Australia and abroad. With seven offices throughout Australia our team work on projects that transform and improve the lives of ordinary Australians every day. Please note, this role can be based in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Hobart, Launceston or Devonport.

The Opportunity: 

In this newly created role, pitt&sherry are looking for a specialist with a broad skill set and a strong strategic mindset to join us as Head of Health, Safety, Sustainability and Environment (HSSE). A key leadership position in our business, we are looking for someone who will lead and influence at every level of pitt&sherry whilst staying informed on the changing landscape and regulatory environment in which we work as well as listening and responding appropriately to the needs of our team and our clients. Your main focus areas will cover:

  • Develop and implement long-term strategies for Health, Safety, ESG and Sustainability aligned with organisational goals and industry best practice
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the business, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Champion sustainability initiatives, including energy conservation, waste reduction, and carbon footprint reduction efforts
  • Safety & Health - Develop a plan for Safety and Health management improvement across the business which aligns with company strategy and includes improvements and reactive changes to meet project team needs and long term goals to improve safety culture
  • Sustainability Integration: Embed sustainability in business operations, progress a pathway to improved ESG reporting
  • Quality Optimisation: Enhance deliverable/process quality through continuous improvement and reporting
  • Risk Management: Improve overall risk resilience for project delivery and long term business sustainability eg conduct quarterly risk assessment with mitigation strategies
  • ESG (Environment Social Governance) Strategy Development and Execution: Formulate and implement comprehensive ESG strategies aligning with company goals for short and long term.

What you bring: 

  • Minimum 10 + years of significant and proven experience in all the technical fields of ESG, Sustainability, Safety and Risk.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with a strategic mindset.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to build effective relationships internally and externally and can adjust communication style and content depending on the audience
  • Bachelors Degree in a relevant discipline and ideally professional certification or Postgraduate Qualifications in either Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental management, Sustainability, ESG, Social Responsibility
