About this role

Newmont is currently seeking a Head, People, Australia. As an executive leader, this role will implement Enterprise people strategies and programs, developing and implementing Business Unit specific people strategies aligned to enterprise strategies, systems, and governance standards.

Your role will consist of

Strategy/Governance

  • Manage the execution of business unit and site people initiatives to align with global people strategies and Enterprise-established standards and performance benchmarks.
  • Develop 3+ year people plan for the business unit and associated sites aligned to the business unit performance and growth objectives.
  • Support the local execution of enterprise-led people programs in total rewards, talent, and organizational effectiveness, giving feedback to improve performance and mitigate key risks.
  • Establish and/or manage systems that monitor compliance with Enterprise standards, policies, values, codes of conduct and corporate standards and policies.
  • Provide people support for projects and exploration within the Business Unit

Operations Excellence

  • Support the MD BU and Leadership teams in the people aspects of their roles.
  • Manage the delivery of people projects on time and within budget and in accordance with Enterprise and BU people strategy.
  • Provide BU and site people reporting and analytics using enterprise tools and systems, providing input to the improvement of those systems based on local and business unit needs.
  • Provide feedback to the Total Rewards, Talent, and Organizational Effectiveness COEs on the delivery of people support & services to the Business Unit and sites, collaborating on improvement activities.
  • Prepare BU people project plans, schedules, and budgets for approval.
  • Participate in the implementation of Enterprise led people systems, digitalization, and process improvement activities.
  • Develop local business unit strategies and plans for:

o Labor Relations including specific negotiations strategies for BU sites.

o The management and delivery of Technical Training

Safety & Sustainability

  • Support safety and sustainability activities incorporating the principles in BU people system design.
  • Within established boundaries interface with community and government stakeholders to support the social license to operate.
  • Support line management in monitoring performance and activities to reduce risk exposure and take improvement activities as appropriate.

People

Member of the BU Leadership team contributing to its effectiveness in delivering required outcomes

Lead the Business Unit and site people teams responsible for execution of specified people activities.

  • Develop individual capabilities including the required technical knowledge, skill development consistent with Newmont's Talent Philosophy and People Function Health of Discipline
  • Set performance expectations and provide feedback to Business Unit & Site people teams.
  • Lead the development of inclusive and cohesive teams working together to deliver productive, safe outcomes.

Commercial

Budgeting, forecasting and reporting financial metrics

  • Develop budgets, forecasts and report results to required Enterprise processes and timeframes.

Your knowledge, training and skills checklist

Knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline
  • Pofessional HR certification if available in country
  • Knowledge in mining or extraction industry value chain
  • Country labor regulations

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in forming and executing HR policies and processes specific to the country.
  • Advanced proficiency in labor relations strategy and negotiations in jurisdiction
  • Advanced proficiency in working with employee life cycle elements.
  • Competent level of proficiency in project formulation and management
  • Competent level of proficiency in data analysis and reporting of key analytics.
  • Competent level of proficiency in operator recruitment processes
  • Competent level of proficiency in the developing and delivery of local training programs

Other considerations

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Must be legally able to work in a designated country or qualify for a work visa where required.
  • Proficiency in English required; second language as required
