About the Position

This is a fantastic career opportunity to join Iluka's Jacinth-Ambrosia Leadership team and contribute to managing and actively promoting H&S across the site.

This vital position is accountable for managing the Jacinth-Ambrosia approach to Health and Safety, with a key focus on driving continued improvement in site Health and Safety performance. 

The Health & Safety Superintendent delivers the H&S strategy, manages governance and systems compliance requirements as well as providing specialist technical Health and Safety advice and support to the site’s operations, including the mentoring of site Health and Safety specialists.

Key aspects include:

  • Compliance - Manage and monitor compliance to relevant Health and Safety legislation, licences and approvals.
  • Health and Safety Systems and Programs - Integrating H&S management into operational planning and decision making.
  • Management - Ensuring site compliance with H&S standards, managing risk registers, overseeing investigations, and managing performance indicators. Leading safety programs, incident investigations and injury management, occupational Health and hygiene and emergency response procedures.
  • Stakeholder relationships - Liaising and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including authorities and the community.
  • Leadership - Demonstrating leadership and influence through improvement initiatives, ensuring staff are adequately trained for effective implementation while maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Cost Control and Budgeting - Collaborating with management on relevant H&S cost control and budgeting matters, and monitoring and reporting on budgeting performance.
  • Medical and Emergency Response - Manage, support, and empower the Medical and Emergency Rescue teams to achieve a high level of proficiency.
  • Contractors - Safety management of all contractors, including pre-qualification checks, inductions and holding all to a high safety standard.
  • Training - Delivering WHS training and collaborating with L&D as required.

You will be reporting to and working closely with the Operations Manager, as well as leaders of other departments on site and at corporate.  You will use a hands-on approach to assist, train, mentor and ensure compliance across the site, with the goal of zero-harm.

This position has exposure to leaders and peers at other sites throughout Australia, giving you excellent opportunity for professional growth, development and to make a positive impact at Iluka.

About You

This is an exciting career move for an experienced Health and Safety leader. What we are looking for includes:

  • Proven experience in mining, resources or a similar industry.
  • Strong understanding of WHS legislation in Australia, in particular SA mining approvals, legislation, and processes.
  • A related tertiary qualification will be advantageous.
  • Experience with H&S auditing, training and assessment, SAP and Cintellate software is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills, with the capacity to lead and influence others across a diverse range of disciplines.
  • Experienced with leading H&S practices and techniques.
  • Knowledge of investigation techniques, such as ICAM and 5-whys.
  • Skilled in MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel Spreadsheets
  • The ability to build and maintain positive working relationships while ensuring compliance.
  • Someone with strong interpersonal skills and a professional approach
  • Able to supervise and coach staff and contractors.
  • A current C class driver’s licence

Benefits and Roster

This is a permanent site-based role working on an 8 days on, 6 days off roster. The position is FIFO from Adelaide or Ceduna.
