A little about the role

Due to organisational growth, the Health, Safety & Wellbeing Specialist is a newly created position which sits within our National People & Culture team.

Reporting to the Director of People, this role proactively supports the health, safety and wellbeing (HSW) of employees, contractors, clients and visitors by providing a range of advice and support to internal and external stakeholders in relation to a range of HSW matters.

As the HSW subject matter expert, you’ll work alongside the People Business Partners, to build relationships with the jurisdictions, providing tailored advice and enhancing local leadership capacity to achieve engaged, highly functioning, healthy, and safe teams. Whilst you’ll be well supported by your team, this is an opportunity to truly make the role your own by developing and implementing an innovative health, safety, and wellbeing operational plan to achieve positive and lasting outcomes.

As a HSW Specialist, you will be responsible for:

  • In alignment with the People Strategy, support the Director of People in the delivery of overall strategic improvements through the development, facilitation, and delivery of specific HSW training and preventative safety activities across the organisation.
  • In collaboration with the People Business Partners, provide support and guidance to leaders across jurisdictions on employee wellbeing matters – including return to work plans both work-related and non-work related.
  • Actively manage WorkCover claims applying a person-centred approach focusing on injured workers’ needs by setting recovery goals, supporting them to achieve these and consulting with relevant stakeholders to keep them informed as appropriate.

This is a full-time, ongoing role - you can be based between any of our KAA sites, with hybrid working options also available! The base salary for this role is $115,000 - $118,000/annum + super + up to $15,900/annum in salary packaging benefits.


About you

To be successful in this role, you’ll come with:

  • 3+ years’ previous experience in a safety and/or compliance role.
  • Certificate IV in WHS, Safety or Compliance related qualification, or willingness to obtain.
  • ‘Return to Work Coordinator’ Training, or willingness to obtain.
  • Demonstrated experience improving and implementing new safety processes, systems, and procedures.
  • Proven ability to engage and coach operational staff with technical guidance around the management of high-risk tasks.
