In 1986 Walgett opened its doors to provide an Aboriginal Medical Service. The Board of Directors moved a resolution to treat all people in the community and that has been the case ever since. Our statistics show today that 40% of our clients are non-Aboriginal.
WAMS is looking for a highly skilled, community centred professional to be our Healthy for Life Coordinator. This is an exciting position that has the objectives to:
Improve the availability of child and maternal health care.
Improve the prevention, early detection and management of chronic disease.
Improve the long term health outcomes of Aboriginal peoples.
The Healthy for Life Coordinator will:
- Design, coordinate and deliver health promotion activities to the community and surrounding communities.
- Engage the community to improve their health and work towards self-management.
- Lead small team to deliver community health promotion and events.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of targeted health promotion.
Successful candidates will have:
Qualification and experience:
- Health qualifications for example - Exercise Physiologist or strong experience in community engagement
- Minimum 2 years experience
- Interest in exercise and health benefits or sporting background
- Experience with Aboriginal communities or willingness to learn
- High level of computer literacy
- Effective problem solving skills
- Ability to building and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to work both autonomously and within a team environment
- Demonstration of developing professional competencies and qualifications
- Strong culturally appropriate communication
- Previous experience with event organisation and promotions
It is a mandatory requirement for this position to have a current Working with Children Check, National Criminal Police Check, current NSW Driver's Licence.
