This role will be responsible for the provision of comprehensive HSE Advisory support for PES sites across the Pilbara and will involve an extensive travel requirement including regular stays in camp accommodation.

Who we are

Pilbara Environmental Services (PES) is an incorporated joint venture between a traditional owner business (Kingkira Group Pty Ltd) and one of Australia’s largest national environmental and industrial services providers (Cleanaway Waste Management Limited). PES was formed in 2015 whilst tendering on the Fortescue Metals Group Limited’s miscellaneous services contract in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

The position is responsible for

Providing direct support, assistance, and advisory services to PES to ensure local management and operational employees are aware of and operate within statutory HSE requirements, and to drive continuous improvement in HSE performance and outcomes.
Driving our safety culture by overseeing all workplace health and safety initiatives across PES operational sites.
The role will champion work health and safety engagement across the business by coaching and mentoring leaders in practices that support and protect the health, safety, and welfare of our employees. Key to the role will be an emphasis of environmental sustainability given the unique environment in which the role is located.
Partnering with local leaders (both PES and Client) and frontline employees, the HSE Advisor will facilitate and lead the development, implementation, auditing and review of the Health and Safety Management system. The role will drive risk management initiatives & strategies and will target best practice levels of legislative compliance in an environment of continuous improvement.

Your new role

Provide functional assistance and advice to site management to ensure compliance with all relevant Safety and Environmental statutory regulations and Group HSE Management System requirements, incident investigation and management
Conduct safety induction programs for new starters
Assist the sites with HSE hazard identification and risk assessment activities, including maintenance of current risk registers and development and assessment of effective risk controls
Coach site supervisors on how to exercise visible leadership and apply knowledge to reduce HSE risk and prevent injury and illness
Support the site to conduct HSE incident investigations to determine root causes, contributing factors and corrective actions and to communicate key learnings.
Provide direction to site management detailing HSE improvements and corrective actions where applicable and provide functional support to ensure such improvement and corrective actions are implemented.
Conduct compliance, HSE Management Standards and specialist inspections or audits at sites, work with site management to develop recommendations to address deficiencies identified.
Schedule and deliver HSE compliance and operational training to employees, as required and in accordance with procedures, standards, and legislation.
Actively lead and participate in both Company and Client Behavioural Based Observation programs

Your skills and experience

Qualifications in occupational health and safety, or other relevant disciplines
Minimum of two years practical experience in a Health & Safety role in either mining, oil & gas or transport industries.
Previous experience in blue-collar industry environments desirable where heavy vehicles, mobile plant and equipment is operated.
Certification to deliver and assess training in accordance with Australian standard Certificate IV in Training Assessment is desirable.
Ability to write detailed reports and other functional documents including JSA’s, Formal Risk Assessments & Safe Work Instructions.
Previous experience in developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences
Able to plan and prioritise work to meet commitments aligned with organisational goals.

Ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.
