Gunya Meta is a non-profit organisation deeply embedded in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community of Logan, Since it's establishment in 2011, Gunya Meta has built strong, trusting, relationships through working alongside community members on a range of programs aimed at addressing critical issues for First Nation adults, children and young people such as school engagement, education and training, healthy relationship, mental health concerns and cultural enrichments. Gunya Meta is dedicated to breaking down barriers to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to live proudly as they walk in two worlds.
We are seeking a dedicated male educational youth mentor to join our team. The successful applicant will play a crucial role in engaging, supporting and transitioning young individuals in a secondary school setting, creating a positive ripple effect.
Primary duties and responsibilities will include providing mentoring services to First Nations students of Gunya Meta Transition to Work program. The role will play a pivotal part in nurturing the next generation by offering academic support, navigate challenges, cultural connections, transition to work and celebrate achievements while utilising strength based approaches. You will be required to plan and deliver programs, projects and activities as required including setup, program implementation, documentation and reporting. Other responsibilities include providing support to the Team Leader, ensuring programs are completed accurately and delivered with high quality and in a timely manner, relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
The role will be offered in line with current funding availability of 22.8 hours per week until end of 2025.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Provide comprehensive mentoring services for Indigenous Employment and Training Programs and Program Activities;
- Assist with assessing needs of Indigenous Communities and program participants;
- Comply with reporting requirements;
- Ensuring contractual requirements and KPI’s for each program are achieved;
- Assist with developing potential programs if required;
- Liaising with relevant Stakeholders;
- Assist with preparing reports;
- Provide Cultural Awareness to internal and external stakeholders as required;
- Working alongside all Gunya Meta staff to develop relationships in order to target Contractual and Internal KPI’s;
- Ensure administration tasks are completed in a timely manner.
- Ensure program participants have completed all relevant paperwork before commencing a program;
- Undertake training as required.
- Using computers to generate reports, create presentations, emails and reports;
- Implement and monitor programs as directed by management, and see the programs through to completion;
- Assume responsibility for maintenance of program equipment;
- Ensure tasks are undertaken in line with the Policies and Procedures of the organisation including Child Safe Framework and Workplace and Safety.
- Other duties as required by the Executive or Team Leader.
