About the Role

We’re excited to have been selected as Preferred Tenderer for the Victorian Road Maintenance Contract (Metro) – South Central Region!  

Starting in July this year, we’ll be working across Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs and right down the Mornington Peninsula, delivering routine maintenance, emergency response and defect rectification works, as well as network refurbishment and upgrade projects, under a major long-term contract with the Victorian Government.

How You'll Contribute:

Reporting to the Planning & Optimisation (P&O) Manager, the Inspections Lead coordinates and contributes to safe, compliant and efficient completion of the VRMC Routine Inspection Program.

Specifically, the Inspections Lead is accountable for: 

  • Working closely with the Pre-works team to develop the annual, quarterly, monthly and weekly Routine Inspection schedules 

  • Defining, implementing and continually refining processes for identifying, recording and reporting hazards and defects across all asset categories in line with Section 750 requirements and data management standards 

  • Carrying out allocated Inspection activities and overseeing the day-to-day activities and performance of the Inspections team 

  • Liaising with the Works Monitoring team to address jeopardy management issues and prioritise completion of urgent rectification works identified during Inspections 

  • Reviewing and analysing Inspection data for quality assurance purposes and to support training of AI models for hazard and defect identification 

In a typical week, you’ll spend around 60% of your time in the field carrying out Inspections, coaching your team, and performing quality assurance activities. 

About you: 

You’ll have at least five years’ experience in road maintenance and operations, including at least two years’ experience leading a small team of direct reports carrying out inspections of pavement, roadside and / or structural assets. 

An emerging leader who enjoys being out in the field, you’ll demonstrate: 

  • An inclusive approach to managing and developing your team, underpinned by an ability to make best-for-Contract decisions within your span of control  

  • A history of establishing the Inspections team as network custodians, sensitive to changing network condition, performance and amenity  

  • Well-developed digital and data analysis skills, including familiarity with AI / ML tools 

  • Exceptional time-management skills and a proven ability to maintain effective, professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.  

Formal qualifications (Cert IV or higher) in a technical discipline are a bonus, but not essential if you can demonstrate equivalent capability and experience. Ideally, you’ll be a Level 1 accredited Structures Inspector, but we’re happy to support you in gaining this accreditation.
