Job description

  • Have a meaningful impact working with clients in the initial stage of their help-seeking journey
  • Work with authentic and talented people who will support you to grow as a person and to develop advanced communication skills
  • Be recognised for your exceptional performance with additional monthly bonuses

A positive impact where it matters.

Every day, people take the big step to call us, while navigating their way through a broad range of challenges and circumstances. This initial contact is a crucial part of the help-seeking process and the intake team wholeheartedly recognise the significance of this moment. The intake team are the lifeblood of our organisation and are held in high regard as they set the tone for clients engaging in our service.

Your primary responsibility will involve speaking on the phone to many different types of people seeking Mental Health support, identifying the correct therapeutic fit for the client, and empowering them to connect with a quality assured therapist from our network of private practices.

Our intake office is based in Balwyn, Melbourne and this is an office-based only role. You can learn more about our service by visiting www.lifesupportscounselling.com.au.

As an Intake Consultant, a meaningful impact looks like:

  • Building trust quickly with clients over the phone and email
  • Tailoring your approach and simplifying complex information to help each client feel confident in making the best decision for their specific needs
  • Applying problem-solving skills and directive communication to navigate personal and practical barriers that might prevent clients from getting therapeutic support
  • Using your energetic and intuitive communication skills to activate clients into taking a step forward into action
  • Completing administrative duties efficiently and accurately to ensure the experience of attending a first counselling appointment is effortless for clients

Are you the right fit? (Key selection criteria)

As a successful Intake Consultant, you:

  • Have exceptional communication skills and an engaging phone manner
  • Are driven to achieve and exceed high performance standards
  • Thrive in a highly principled and growth-oriented team environment
  • Can think on your feet and quickly troubleshoot problems
  • Are comfortable with asking for, receiving, and offering constructive feedback
  • Implement strong self-care practices in order to sustain a role that requires a high level of emotional intelligence
  • Demonstrate strong multi-tasking skills and attention to detail in a fast-paced role

No qualifications or background in the field of Mental Health are necessary, but success in the role requires the highest standards of client care and communication expertise.

When considering if this role is the right fit for you, please note that the intent to help others is indeed required and commendable, however, this is only part of the equation in providing successful outcomes for help-seekers. This role is in a fast-paced work environment where sharp communication, strong problem solving abilities, resilience to rejection, and the ability to be self-reflective are the key skills to success and impact.

The intake team are here on Monday to Friday 8am - 8pm and Saturday to Sunday 9am - 5.30pm. We are ideally looking to fill 15-25 hours a week but for the right candidate in an integral role to our organisation, we do our best to shape shifts around each Intake Consultant's individual availability and preferences.

What makes Life Supports Counselling unique?

  • Intake Consultants are highly esteemed and valued within the business, as it is not an easy role but it has a huge positive impact when done well.
  • Attractive incentives will be paid (based on exceptional performance) in addition to the flat hourly base rate of $33.
  • We are a small and collaborative team who are invested in each other’s success. You’ll be working with values-driven people who genuinely care about achieving our mission together, in a dynamic and ethical work environment. We are proud of our collegial culture and regularly celebrate the work we do.
  • The intake team positively impacts the lives of our community every day by growing the private practices of our network of highly regarded therapists, and providing clients with the highest quality service.
  • You’ll have access to monthly one-on-one check ins and performance coaching with a Team Leader who values your unique contributions and cares about facilitating your growth.
