About the role
Merri-bek City Council is offering a fantastic opportunity for an Integrated Water Management Lead to join our dynamic Sustainable Built Environment Team to accelerate the transition to a water sensitive city.
Council’s Integrated Water Management (IWM) Strategy – Towards a Water Sensitive City 2040 and five-year action plan are the key strategic commitments for Council’s water future. Council’s vision is to build resilience to the climate emergency and drought, enhance liveability and support a healthy environment.
The Integrated Water Management (IWM) Officer position will focus on increasing Council’s capacity around WSUD, to support Council’s IWM Strategy and Council Plan commitments. The position is a two-year position, which is joint-funded by Council and Melbourne Water. The position will sit in the Sustainable Built Environment Unit.
The role will lead the investigation of the development of a stormwater offsets scheme for private developments in Merri-bek as part of the planning scheme. This role will also assist Council’s IWM Lead with project management of IWM projects. For example, the role will assist the overseeing consultants doing wetland/stormwater harvesting designs, construction and other IWM projects. The role will provide technical support to Council’s Environmentally Sustainable Development (ESD) officers to ensure planning applications deliver on IWM requirements under the Planning Scheme.
The role will provide critical support for Council to deliver its commitment to become a water sensitive city by 2040, through strategic thinking on issues such as sustainable design in the development process, monitoring and evaluation, compliance, and advocacy.
