About the Patent and Trade Mark Attorney Firm:

This role is being handled by a recruitment specialist on behalf of a boutique IP attorney firm.  The firm is a full-service, independent, boutique Australian and New Zealand patent and trade mark attorney firm with an affiliated law firm acting for a broad range of overseas and local clients having an emphasis on pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Paralegal with a passion for IP having strong database and word processing skills and exceptional attention to detail.  You may have gained your experience within an IP Law Firm or an In-house IP practitioner. 

As an agile and growing firm, the initial appointment may commence with part time- 3 days or 22 hours per week, with the potential of converting to fulltime hours over time.

Responsibilities:

Working with Registered Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys and Lawyers, you will be responsible for:

• Conducting trade mark searches for trade mark applications and registration in Australia, New Zealand, Madrid Applications and overseas.
• Preparing and filing trade mark applications, reporting office action to clients and preparing and filing responses
• Preparing and filing design applications, reporting office actions to clients and preparing and filing responses with IP Australia and IPONZ.
• Preparing and filing plant breeder’s rights applications and plant variety rights applications with IP Australia and IPONZ, reporting office actions to clients and preparing and filing responses with IP Australia and IPONZ.
• Assisting with patent prosecution and maintenance, including preparing and filing patent applications, reporting office action to clients and preparing and responses with IP Australia and IPONZ.
• Instructing and dealing with the Firm’s global network of overseas associates.
• Managing and maintaining IP docketing and client databases, including docketing deadlines and upcoming filings.
• Assisting the preparation of Invoices to clients.
• Assisting in the preparation of Written Submissions, Declarations and other documents for opposition proceedings before IP Australia and IPONZ.
• Assisting the associated Law firm on preparation of written contracts, licenses,  assignments, written letters of advice to clients, letters of demand, and Briefs to Counsel as well as preparation of Court documents in the Federal Court of Australia.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field (Science or Arts) and/or paralegal certification, would be preferable.
• At least 3 years of experience as an Intellectual Property Paralegal.
• Strong database and word processing skills, including experience with databases such as Foundation IP, Inprotech IPfolio, or similar. 
• Exceptional attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a remote/virtual environment.
• Highly motivated to learn.
