While we presently operate under a hybrid model with in office requirements on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays, this can change at any time based on company needs.
Job Description
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Coastal Engineer or Scientist to join our Sydney or Perth office. The position is ideal for a Coastal Engineering or oceanography graduate or early career professional with up to 5 years' experience. The role offers a hands-on practical introduction to coastal process investigations, with exposure to numerical modelling and data analysis, whilst providing general assistance to our team in other areas such as programming, GIS and data compilation. This diverse role will include mentoring and advice from experienced engineering and science professionals. Baird undertake projects throughout Australia and there will be opportunities to be involved in projects worldwide as part of the global Baird team.
The roles and responsibilities of this position will consist of a variety of assignments that require the application of beginner-to-moderate analytical skills, under the guidance from senior engineers and scientists, including but are not limited to:
  • Background research and data gathering tasks.
  • Data processing and analysis of metocean and environmental data.
  • Numerical modelling of coastal processes.
  • Data presentation and visualisation.
  • Assistance with the preparation of proposals, reports and presentations.
  • Quality Assurance/Quality Control tasks.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor level degree in Engineering (Civil or Environmental), Applied Science (Oceanography) or equivalent.
  • Strong capability and interest in data analytics and problem solving.
  • Previous experience and/or a strong interest in coastal processes.
  • Experience in and/or keen interest to learn numerical modelling (hydrodynamics and waves).
  • Experience in programming (preferably in MATLAB or Python) would be beneficial.
  • Excellent people and communication skills.
  • An ability to work within a team environment and individually.
  • Be self-motivated with a strong work ethic and a willingness to travel.
  • Have an existing and valid right to work in Australia.
