About the position

The Inventory Accountant plays a vital role in maintaining accurate and efficient inventory management systems and processes. They will support the business in achieve the management of stock and ensure efficient internal operations. 

Primary Duties:

They key accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of inventory transactions.
  • Co-ordinating and supervising regular physical counts of inventory.
  • Develop and maintain cost accounting processes and systems.
  • Identifying and investigating discrepancies in inventory records and implementing corrective measures.
  • Variance analysis.
  • Assessing and analysing obsolescence.
  • Developing and implementing inventory control procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with internal controls and procedures related to inventory management.
  • Preparing and analysing inventory-related items on the financial statements such as cost of goods sold, inventory turnover and valuation reports.
  • Calculating and maintaining accurate inventory costing, including standard costing, weighted average, or other valuation methods as appropriate.
  • Prepare detailed cost reports, budget comparisons, and other financial analysis for management review.
  • Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end closing processes.

About You

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have relevant working experience in inventory control in a dynamic and fast-moving manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of Accounting Standards and their application to inventory management and financial reporting.
  • Meticulousness in recording and reconciling inventory data to maintain accuracy and reliability.
  • Capability to identify issues, investigate root causes and propose effective solutions for inventory-related challenges.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing business needs and continuous improvements in inventory management practices.
  • Solid understanding of receipting and shipping functions.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferable.
