Junior Electronics Design Engineer
We are looking for a Junior Electronics engineer to join our growing team!
This role will involve all aspects of Electronics Design, fabrication, testing and firmware development. We have an in house production facility, so your team is responsible end to end, from design to through life support.
We work in Defence, Data Centres and critical infrastructure, so the projects you would be apart of vary and there may be opportunities for interstate travel and field work if that is of interest.
The role is diverse and requires adaptable and fast learning candidates, who will be working directly underneath a senior engineer, as part of a larger diversely skilled team. The candidate will be involved in the following:
- Electrical/Electronic & PCB design projects (mostly using KiCAD & Altium),
- Firmware development (mostly around STM32),
- Cable harnesses and other associated accessories,
- Mechanical design (enclosures, assemblies etc).
- Technical document writing and review, and
- Network design/configuration projects.
Outside of the direct role, close integration with other teams is likely. This provides exposure to industrial additive manufacturing (3D printing), CNC machining, sheet metal and other fabrication and assembly capabilities.
The role is an in-office/in-workshop role due to security requirements and access to tools etc. It is not your typical ‘desk' type of role though, you will be exposed to the full equipment lifecycle and other engineering disciplines - 'hands on' candidates only.
Eligibility for a security clearance (NV1) is a must (already having a clearance would be advantageous, but not required), see the requirements here: ‘https://www.defence.gov.au/security/clearances/applicants-holders/vetting-assessment-process’ note you MUST be an Australian citizen to obtain this clearance. Unfortunately, applicants that do not meet this eligibility requirement cannot be considered for the position.
Secure Bits is a proud supporter of veteran’s employment, and we support Australian Defence Force Reserves, if that's you, please call that out in your cover letter.
Due to the nature of our work, sometimes our work requires long days, tight deadlines or stressful environments. If you thrive in fast paced and goal-oriented environments, this role may be for you!
The ideal candidate:
The most important personal attributes are attitude, initiative, problem solving approach and a willingness to learn. Cultural fit is also critical as we have a great team and environment.
This is a junior role (open to mid-level too). Applicants are most likely to have completed a degree in a relevant field, any/all other relevant experience will be considered but is not required. Any of the following (in addition to skills and experience related to the role specified above) is considered beneficial:
- Experience with LoRa or ultra low power projects,
- Programming skills,
- CAD/CAM experience (Solidworks),
- Network experience,
- IT skills,
- Hands on skills (ie working with hand or power tools),
- Teamwork experience, and
- Self-motivated/managed learning.
