Job Purpose

The Project Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and managing the financial aspects of various projects within our organization. This role involves monitoring project budgets, tracking expenses, analyzing cost variances, and ensuring that all financial aspects align with the project objectives. The Project Accountant will collaborate closely with project managers, finance teams, and stakeholders to provide accurate and timely financial information, enabling informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and monitor project budgets, ensuring they align with the project scope and objectives. Regularly review and update budgets as necessary.
  • Prepare accurate and timely project financial reports, including cost forecasts, cash flow analysis, and variance reports. Present findings to stakeholders and project managers.
  • Work closely with the Senior Management to provide meaningful financial and analytical data and analysis to assist with strategic decision making.
  • Drive a culture of cost reduction, margin maximisation and effective working capital management.
  • Providing support to the Transport Division Finance Manager when required.
  • Assist with day-to-day financial operations such as payroll, invoicing and other transactions, ensuring adherence to CIMIC policies and procedures
  • Manage project invoicing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to contractual terms. Coordinate with clients and internal teams for billing processes.
  • Manage the processing and verification of supply chain invoices, purchase orders, and expense reports. Coordinate with vendors and internal departments for invoice reconciliation and approval.
  • Support the change management process ensuring that scope, schedule, and cost changes are accounted for and approved by responsible stakeholders.
  • Develop strong and collaborative relationships with the key stakeholders (client and UGL corporate) to ensure effectiveness of communication and resolution of issues.
  • Assist the project team with UGL, State and Client reporting requirements.
  • Assist with other general accounting and statutory duties as required.
  • Input of work and reports are completed within set timeframes i.e. months end.
  • Reconciliation of subcontractor/supplier statements.
  • Maintain variation and other contract registers and records.
  • Provide administrative support to the finance & commercial team.
  • Liaise with project teams to gather project information as required to perform the finance functions of the project.
  • Maintain budgets within the financial reporting system with respect to budget transfers and variations as required.
  • Assist the project managers with estimating for additional / change scope of works.
  • Ensure reporting requirements and other financial deadlines are adhered to and regular, consistent and timely reporting is administered as required.
  • Maintain the filing of site documentation
  • Prepare journals to allocate expenditure to projects as required

Qualifications and Experience

  • Formal Qualifications in accounting, commerce, engineering or an equivalent related field (project experience in similar role will be considered)
  • Experience in SAP Financial Management preferred, experience in other financial management tools such as coins will be considered
  • Experience working with Projects and Operations & Maintenance contracts
  • Proficient in handling contract margin improvements, labour rates, capital expenditure, cost control, project controls, risk management
