Job description

The position
We welcome applications to join the team at Sunrise Christian School Whyalla, in the position of Kitchen Garden Specialist.

The Kitchen Garden Specialist has overall responsibility for planning and maintaining the garden, and plans and conducts weekly garden sessions, supervised by a teacher, in which students learn about growing produce for a kitchen. The Kitchen Garden Specialist will have a desire to make a difference to the health and wellbeing of primary school children and have an appreciation and empathy with the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation mission and values. 

This position is for 18 hours per week.

Relocation Assistance
We have developed a Relocation Assistance Package to help new employees moving to Whyalla. This includes payment of relocation expenses and a relocation allowance paid for the first year of employment. Conditions of the package will be discussed with the successful applicant.

To be successful
We are looking for committed Christians who are active in church fellowship to join our vibrant Christian community. 

It is expected that applicants will:

  • Be a committed Christian and in active fellowship of a local church.
  • Have extensive horticultural experience and the ability to impart knowledge to Primary school-age students.
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of horticulture, with an emphasis on providing edible produce.
  • Be able to supervise both children and adults and relate well to all age groups.
  • Participate in giving presentations to groups.
  • Communicate in a friendly and courteous manner with students and parents.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess a current Working With Children Check and have completed Responding to Risk of Harm, Abuse & Neglect in Education & Care (RRHAN-EC) training and Protective Practices training, or be willing to complete these upon commencement.
