The VACCA team is committed to the organisation's visions and values, passionately providing support, service and advocacy for our children and other vulnerable members of the community.Our strength lies with our people, and all people are welcome at VACCA!About the roleThe Koorie Cultural Placement Support Worker role will undertake an assessment of the cultural needs of the child or young person in out of home care in line with the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle, link children and young people to Aboriginal services and community events and activities, educate carers in Aboriginal history, culture and issues impacting Aboriginal people today and advocate on behalf of the child with the referral agency and the Department of Family and Fairness (DFFH).About you
  • Demonstrated awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures, and commitment to continually build knowledge of such, along with a high level of awareness of the key issues which impact upon Aboriginal communities;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, culturally appropriate, and respectful way with a range of stakeholders including agency staff and carers, Aboriginal services, and Aboriginal/Non-Aboriginal family.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal services.
  • Ability to use assessment tools to identify and plan for the cultural needs of the child in line with the Aboriginal Placement Principle.
  • Ability to educate and mentor agency caseworkers and carers and support them to attend Aboriginal services, community events to develop and maintain appropriate relationships with the Aboriginal community.
  • Requirements: Current COVID-19 vaccination (Including booster dose, as applicable), a Working with Children's Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a valid Victorian Drivers Licence
