About the Role

Western Australian Iron Ore currently have a vacancy available on a permanent basis for a Laboratory Analyst to join the team working in the new Port laboratory, which is a fully automated, robotically driven facility. You will be a motivated, inclusive individual capable of providing quality results.

This role can be FIFO or Residential working a 3 days / 2 nights / 5 off / 2 days / 2 nights / 5 off / 2 days / 3 nights / 4 off roster. Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in North West Australia.

Reporting to the Supervisor Laboratory, your responsibilities will include:

  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Drive and encourage accountability and culture within the team, promoting positive relationships.
  • Monitor and operate the Laboratory equipment and systems to provide sample analysis results.
  • Report cargo analysis results.
  • Monitor the Laboratories assays accuracy, with precision and inform the Snr Analyst of any non-conformances.
  • Perform the Laboratory quality control tasks to the quality defined in Laboratory procedures as assigned by the Laboratory Supervisor.
  • Identify, and within training and competency, resolve equipment faults to maintain equipment availability.
  • Escalate and propose continuous improvement initiatives and diligently implement changes.
  • Execute planned work tasks in a timely manner as scheduled.

About You

To be successful in this role you will possess the following:

  • An open C Class driver's license
  • Effective communications skills, along with strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Positive can-do attitude with a willingness to learn new skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Outlook & Excel
  • Experience in the mining industry and experience with laboratory instrumentation (XRF/TGA) is preferred
  • Experience operating automated robotic equipment highly desirable
  • Demonstrated competence with computer-based ordering and work management systems, such as SAP is desirable
