ABOUT THE ROLE

To continue to grow and support your team in our already established NATA certified asbestos testing laboratory and assist where required in the field to assist your team members when required. 

To continue to process asbestos bulk air and soil samples in a timely and efficient manner and participate in maintaining the NATA accredited laboratory and its associated equipment.

As a Laboratory Analyst, you are primarily responsible for analysing samples received. You use the correct methodologies and equipment for testing to conform to quality system requirements and standards. You ensure regular equipment maintenance to minimise downtime and trouble shoot any problems.  You will also be trained to conduct non-routine sample preparation and analysis.

About You

We are looking for a motivated self starter with a “can do” attitude. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications (in Science & or Lab)
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with PCM and PLM
  • Ability to meet tight timelines and work under pressure
  • Knowledge of AS4964-2004, NOHSC 3003-2005, NOHSC 3006-1989 and NEPM Guidelines
  • Proven ability to report on findings
  • Ability to calibrate sampling equipment

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A unique opportunity exists to develop and grow in the provision of asbestos sample analysis within our NATA accredited laboratory. The primary responsibilities of the role include:

  • Logging and labelling of samples
  • Sample preparation
  • Asbestos bulk sample analysis and fibre counting
  • Reporting of results
  • Compliance with QA/QC requirements
  • Workflow management
  • Providing assistance to the management team including administrative duties
  • Previous experience in a similar role is desirable

Formal Qualifications / Requirements

There are some specific skills required as this opportunity requires you to work with the board to grow this environmental division into a national presence.

  • Tertiary Degree or Diploma in Sciences, Occ Hygiene or Engineering.
  • Approved Asbestos Identifier- Satisfactory Proficiency Testing Australia (PTA) results for Bulk and Soils.
  • NATA Fibre counting Accreditation- Satisfactory PTA results for fibre counting.
  • You will possess sufficient experience to accurately identify and recommend any additional required lab equipment required and assist our QA manager to update our already existing NATA accreditation. 
  • 2+ years’ experience in asbestos sample analysis (Bulk ID AS4964 and airborne membrane filter method).
  • Familiarity with requirements of ISO9001 quality systems and ISO45001 and OH&S and ISO17025.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work closely with a team and assist in growing our customer base.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

The successful candidate will have the following: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in science
  • Previous experience in fibre counting by membrane filter method and asbestos fibre identification by PLM is highly desirable
  • Strong customer service focus
  • High attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Competence with use of MS Office
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Desire to learn and develop in a progressive business
