POSITION DESCRIPTION

Member of the Product Stewardship Lab at USG’s Corporate Innovation Center in Libertyville, IL to support initiatives in the areas of building materials and product safety. The position will report directly to the Laboratory Director but will work under the guidance of technical staff specialized in fields of analytical, toxicology, and regulatory affairs. 

The successful candidate will acquire knowledge and training from experts in the team and work independently to help in the areas of raw material chemistries, compliance programs, impact of our raw materials and products on the business, and efficient laboratory operations in support of functional goals. Work activities include but are not limited to: experimental design and execution; data collection, analysis and reporting; safety data sheet preparation; quality assurance programs; working with databases and bulletins; help develop Standard Operating Procedures, and liaise with relevant internal and external parties to advance work activities. Some travel may be required for this position. 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Adheres to all safety and environmental regulations of the corporation. Contributes to a safe work environment and participates in safety initiatives.

· Conduct laboratory evaluations of raw materials and finished products in support of functional initiatives, businesses, and operations.

· Gain understanding of raw materials used in the business and their application in support of product stewardship programs such as safety data sheets, bulletin management and data management.

· Maintain databases of chemicals and safety data. Operate platforms like SharePoint to support the above programs.

· Maintain equipment and instruments in safe and good working order. Contribute to lab housekeeping programs.

· Communicates clearly both verbal and written and maintains accurate and up to date documentation of work activities. 

QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s Degree in Science, i.e. Chemistry, Biology, Physics.

· 1 or more years of experience.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to create customer-centric and practical solutions.

· Passion to work in the building industry, innovate and contribute new ideas for safer products and environments.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.

· Excellent time management and strong project management skills.

· Some travel may be needed. 

Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
