YOUR ROLE
The Lead, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education is responsible for guiding the implementation and evaluation of initiatives to improve educational outcomes for Indigenous students in the Archdiocese of Melbourne. Through collaboration with key stakeholders and alignment with organizational strategies and government directives, the role focuses on promoting a culturally safe and responsive environment that fosters the celebration and empowerment of unique cultural identities. Additionally, the position plays a crucial role in supporting a diverse range of learners to ensure every student can achieve success in their educational journey.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives to support the achievement of outcomes against the VCEA Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Action Plan for MACS schools.
- Provide strategic advice for sector and school-level accountability regarding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education and oversee program initiatives for teaching Indigenous students in MACS schools, aligning with government priorities and MACS 2030 Strategy within budgetary guidelines.
- Coordinate consultancy services and referral advice for MACS principals and teachers of Indigenous students, including home-school liaison.
- Lead the creation and distribution of resources to enhance MACS schools' ability to offer culturally responsive education for Indigenous students, while fostering positive engagement with relevant community organizations and rural/remote communities.
- Membership of relevant VCEA, MACS & cross-sectoral working parties relevant to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Education.
ABOUT YOU
- Experience in implementing strategic initiatives related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander outcomes and profound understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, communities, and networks, including awareness of pertinent educational issues.
- Demonstrated knowledge of key government and sector documents outlining the strategies of improving education outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to represent the organization effectively with key stakeholders, including sector partners and Indigenous community organizations, and to communicate efficiently with MACS staff.
- Proven capability to lead organization-wide professional development initiatives targeting the improvement of educational outcomes for Indigenous students and the creation of culturally safe and responsive environments.
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage {Exemption number A103/2012} and relevant tertiary qualification in education or a related discipline e.g. social work (desirable)
Salary range for this position is $140,000 - $145,000 per annum exclusive of superannuation and commensurate with skills and experience. This is a 1.0FTE Ongoing position.
