The role

The Advanced Manufacturing Research Facility (AMRF) team is currently seeking to appoint a Lead Engineer, Applications and Design to lead the Applications and Design technical team to deliver solutions for industry through the expert management and oversight of the design and applications engineering team. This role entails taking ownership of the planning and delivery of technical projects to AMRF customers and stakeholders and will be pivotal to the technical project management, coordinating resources, schedule, and deliverables to achieve excellence in project delivery.

This role also includes extensive interaction and collaboration with internal and external engineering and manufacturing stakeholders and is expected to foster strong relationships and drive innovation through collective efforts. Additionally, a key focus of this position is to cultivate a globally regarded team capable of executing engineering and manufacturing projects with excellence, thereby enhancing the reputation and impact of our facility on a global scale.

What you will bring to the role

  • Tertiary qualifications in industrial, aerospace, mechatronic, mechanical, manufacturing engineering, or related disciplines, or demonstrated, equivalent, relevant professional experience and training.
  • Demonstrable experience leading and managing projects and/or teams in an industrial manufacturing setting. This includes a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of design for manufacturing, engineering design and analysis, and project management within a quality systems framework.
  • Knowledge and experience in creating and approving technical drawings per ASME Y14.5 or AS1100.
  • Sound knowledge and experience in design thinking, delivering complex projects that include elements of requirements gathering, specification authoring, computational analysis methods, design for manufacture, and technical presentations.
  • Experience working with a multitude of manufacturing processes and a knowledge of how new manufacturing technology impacts current and future engineered products.
  • Demonstrated experience in an engineering or technical design role familiar with experience in new product introduction, product lifecycle management, and/or manufacturing vendor relations.
  • Experience building, leading, and growing high performing technical design teams.
