Our design practice is specialized in boutique residential renovations and new built across a variety of scales. We create sophisticated timeless interiors combining attention to details with a sustainable approach: reusing when possible, selecting local products and contractors. In our commercial and residential interior architecture projects, we push the boundary of design through material knowledge and application. European-inspired, we build connections with overseas suppliers and antique dealers giving our interiors a unique character.

Our projects seek to enhance space and human interactions by giving character and a unique sense of place to interiors. Our designs are tailored according to our client’s briefs, incorporating their stories, uses and aspirations.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Lead Interior Designer to join our boutique interior design studio, to work across multiple sectors and projects’ scales on a full-time basis. The position is held at our office in Beaconsfield, WA.

This position will give you the opportunity to work closely and collaboratively with the Director and other Designers on both residential and commercial projects. You will be leading appointed interior design projects working both independently and within project teams. Leadership and experience in designing European-inspired residences and workplaces following Australian design compliances and regulations is necessary.

Your main role will be to plan and design from macro to micro scale with attention to details, skilfully resolving details and technical concerns in line with the project’s design agenda. As a Lead you will engage with external collaborators including contractors, consultants, and project partners, representing the clients’ best interests. You will also be the client’s point of contact, providing design insights and leading meetings.

Within the office and as a small structure, you will help manage and represent the practice with the Director, as well as provide guidance on design and deliverables to other Designers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct client meetings. Develop project proposals and scope of works & services for clients for appointed projects.
  • Develop independently interior schematic design, space planning, design development, and construction drawings responding to the clients’ brief and fit for purpose.
  • In charge of interior architecture documents packages; leading, drawing and reviewing drawings for construction.
  • Select appropriate materials, finishes, products, and manufacturers.
  • Create impactful and concise visual presentations, communicating the design intent carried through the different design stages. Lead and create 3D realistic visuals.
  • Have knowledge of cost estimating methods, material costs, and project budgeting methods.
  • Manage project teams, deliverables, and finances to meet profit targets & deadlines.
  • Liaise with Architect to ensure design compliances to codes and standards.
  • Advise the Director about status of assignment with respect to schedules, budgets, delays, and adverse issues.
  • Assist with managing and representing the practice and office with the director.
  • When requested, assist with the development of the business (marketing, internal systems and administration tasks).
  • Assist with initiating and building relationships with suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Mentor and support junior staff with training on occasions.

Essential Criteria

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher qualification in Interior Architecture, or Interior Design.
  • 3-5 years minimum of post-degree professional full-time experience working as a Lead Interior Designer.
  • Fluent in English compulsory.
  • Current Australian WA Driver’s License.
  • Active White Card – Construction Induction Card.
  • Reside within the Perth area, and able to commute for on-site meetings as required.
  • Awareness and understanding of the PPE, as well as appropriate clothing for office environment and external meetings.
  • Excellent concise communication, commercial, and financial skills.
  • Exceptional conceptual design skills.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Sketchup, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat.
  • Have work experience with, and flair for European and American Design and Interiors, thinking outside of the box.
  • Essential technical knowledge and experience drawing joinery, details, and Interiors/Architecture industry standards.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices, building materials and construction details.
  • Essential experience leading and overseeing the production and manufacturing process, liaising with appointed trades throughout projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of the textile industry, to undertake selection and design of bespoke piece with confidence.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and being the point of contact for all stakeholders involved.
  • Ability to work cross-disciplines with Landscape, Architecture teams, as well as Industrial Designer, Cabinet Makers, and all Decorator trades.

About You

To be successful in that role, you will have experience working within a collaborative team as a Lead Interior Designer and have a strong understanding of European/American Design and Interiors. You will have worked independently throughout all stages of the design process and be eager to develop financial and international commercial skills.

The position requires an understanding of our brand, its vision, design ethos and design elements.
