Job description

The Core Service Inquiry-To- Remittance (ITR) Engineering team is responsible for providing Generator engineering support for all activities associated with routine maintenance, parts, repairs, and minor upgrades.

This is a dynamic and highly respected engineering role supporting extended engineering across; new product initiatives, sales technical advice and critical execution engineering support, for all OEM and targeted oOEM fleets for generators. The team is distributed globally with local teams located in the regions, complemented by central/global teams with domain-expertise and capacity for fleet and technology.

As a member of the Generator Product Service team, within Core Service ITR Engineering, you will be an active contributor to providing both technical and operational support, as well as investigations and root cause analysis to local teams and customers directly, to assure we maintain the best running fleet of generators.  This role will require you to collaborate with both Core Service ITR region engineering teams and Steam Power Service’s global fleet management teams.

Your Role:

  • Investigate conditions reported from the field and define actions needed to resolve problems, while maximizing customer and GE profitability and ensuring continued safe and reliable equipment operations.
  • Managing and participate in Root Cause Analysis
  • Author customer communications
  • Support service programs, fulfillment, and New Product Introduction
  • Manage teams of engineers in resolving problems with tight time constraints
  • Mentor and develop less experienced personnel
  • Make timely conclusions unaided when the situation dictates
  • Provide technology guidance for a team of engineers for all product design aspects of the assigned technology area
  • Support and coordinate with interfacing organizations such as manufacturing, sourcing, services, design engineering, field engineering, projects, etc.
  • After hours duty phone rotation support
  • Communicate progress to all levels of the organization


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university with extensive experience in Generator manufacturing, engineering or design, or equivalent.
  • Those with Diploma or technical qualification with relevant experience in generator maintenance/servicing will be considered
  • 5-10 years in generator experience as field engineer would be advantageous.


Desired Characteristics:

  • Extensive experience of generator technology, including routine inspections, overhauls, rewinding activities, brazing methods, insulation technologies and associated measurements.
  • Creative and innovative mindset with an ability to work in a fast paced, changing environment.
  • Has contributed to the solving of significant technical problems in engineering and execution processes
  • Demonstrated proficiency in technical guidance
  • Strong Management, Process and Facilitation Skills
  • Metric focused and excellent communication and presentation capability

  • Strong process discipline with sound critical thinking skills
  • Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and critical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.
  • Ability to travel (10%)
