The opportunity:
A newly created position within our Therapeutic Area of Ophthalmology. This role is a leadership position within our medical affairs business unit and this position will have 2 direct reports.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of newly formed medical affairs team and lead the way of collaboration within the other Astellas teams. This role will require you to be the subject matter expert for our Ophthalmology space.
Your position will be located in Sydney, NSW and will be an office-based role at our head offices in Macquarie Park.

In this role you will:
Provide strategic medical and scientific expertise in support of all Medical Affairs deliverables and cross-functional activities within Ophthalmology.
Lead and be responsible for 2 Medical science Liaisons.
Address local needs and advance the medical/scientific understanding of the product across their lifecycle.
Demonstrate matrix leadership by developing and maintaining integrated partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure all MA affiliate activities.
Essential Knowledge & Experience:
Extensive and recent experience working in the Pharmaceutical Industry
Must have reasonable amount of experience working within Medical Affairs
Provide Academic expertise in the Therapeutic Area including clinical/ hospital practice, clinical development, experience in designing, executing and reporting.
Have foundational understanding of the drug development process as well as commercialization.
Demonstrate understanding of a corporate environment and be comfortable with matrix reporting lines.
Preferred Knowledge & Experience:
PhD or MD (but not essential)
Education:
Preferred master’s degree in science, Business or equivalent
Additional information:
Permanent, full-time role
Must be based in Australia.
This position follows our hybrid working model. Role requires a blend of home and minimum 2 days per week in our Sydney office. Flexibility may be required in line with business need.
Candidates must be located within a commutable distance of the office.
