Our Australian Munitions teams in Benalla and Mulwala produce propellants, explosives and munitions for defence and commercial uses. Are you passionate about Lean practices and Continuous Improvement? Do you thrive in a hands-on role where you can make a tangible impact? We are seeking a Lean, Performance, and Continuous Improvement Coach to join our dynamic team and drive operational excellence across our organisation.

As a Lean, Performance, and Continuous Improvement Coach, you will provide expertise in Lean practices and offer methodological support to our teams and stakeholders. You will be an essential asset in driving operational efficiency, promoting a culture of Continuous Improvement, and ensuring the successful implementation of Lean principles.

Working at our sites in Benalla and Mulwala - Pangerang and Yorta Yorta land, your role purpose is to –

  • Command a systemic grasp of Lean principles and practices and apply them effectively to enhance operational performance.

  • Provide coaching and training for local managers, empowering them to lead Lean initiatives within their respective areas.

  • Deliver training sessions, sharing best practices and fostering a culture of Continuous Improvement.

  • Support management in addressing operational challenges through short interval management, shop floor tours, gemba walks and associated routines.

  • Lead Continuous Improvement efforts across our sites, driving measurable results and sustainable change.

  • Implement Lean practices in alignment with the Thales Australia Lean team recommendations, ensuring consistency and adherence to established standards.

  • Utilise industrial expertise in production and/or repair processes to contribute valuable insights and recommendations for improvement.

  • Contribute to transformation and improvement plans, leveraging your experience and expertise to drive positive change.

On day one in this role, we'll expect you to bring the following skills, experience and behaviours -

  • Mastery of principal Lean practices, including but not limited to, Continuous Level Pull Flow, Just-in-Time, Andon, 5S, Problem-Solving and Kaizen, demonstrating your commitment to excellence in Lean practices.

  • Curiosity, open-mindedness, and a commitment to lifelong learning and growth.

  • Leadership qualities, including the ability to listen, mobilise resources, and promote mutual respect among team members.

  • Commitment to service and a desire for transparency in sharing information.

  • Ability to empower others, promote diversity, and show empathy in your interactions.

  • Development of an internal and external industrial network, fostering collaboration and benchmarking of activities.

  • Strong collaboration skills, working closely with various professions including Quality, Health, Safety, Environmental (HSE), and Digital.

  • Critical thinking, effective communication at all levels, and coaching abilities to drive sustainable change.
