About:
Barnardos’ Queanbeyan Learning Centre (formerly known as ‘Homework Club’) has been operating since 2009 and came from talking with Aboriginal families at our Gatherings in the Park and Stories in the Street Programs.
The Learning Centre supports students from four of our local primary schools after school hours. This includes cultural health & education, literacy & numeracy support, healthy afternoon tea, group activities, social & emotional wellbeing activities.
Is this role for you?
Learning Centre Casual Support Workers help to plan and run sessions under the supervision of the Project Worker. Shifts are generally after school between Mondays – Thursdays and run for 3 hours, from 2.45pm - 5.45pm.
This may include assisting in running the Homework Club sessions as part of a small team, preparing and providing afternoon tea, supporting children with their schoolwork or other learning activities, facilitating cultural and wellbeing-based activities, and ensuring adequate care and supervision of children at all times.

Selection Criteria:
- Demonstrated experience working with children in a team setting, or supporting the educational needs of children (or equivalent experience/skills). This includes the capacity to safely supervise groups of children of different ages and needs, whilst following multiple protocols including work health and safety practices.
- Demonstrated understanding of the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and the complexities of working with predominantly Aboriginal families in a regional context (or equivalent skills/experience).
- Demonstrated experience communicating with supervisor in a timely manner, consistently attending shifts, and being punctual in the long term.
- An interest in working in the local Queanbeyan community and supporting a community program in the long-term.
