Job description

Avondale University is seeking a Learning Support Officer to join our Library department to provide high-quality library services delivered through Avondale’s two libraries. This part-time position (20 hours per week) will satisfy the learning, teaching, and research needs of the University.

This is an exciting opportunity that will have you supporting the whole of the library service, learning support, and student-centred event operation services. You will be a crucial part of our student’s academic journey and the library’s operations.

What will you do?

Some of your main duties will include:

  • Coordinate, develop, maintain, and deliver a range of learning support programs and resources across all library sites
  • Implement the University’s academic integrity and misconduct policies and procedures, relevant to library service operations across all library sites
  • Coordinate the development and delivery of face-to-face and online library-wide programs and student-centred events at the Lake Macquarie Library, such as Library Orientations, STEM Showcases, Open Days, and outreach activities
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and optimisation of the library service’s teaching materials and STEM collections
  • Assist in the development and optimisation of the library service’s Teaching Materials Centre
  • Ensure the collection and collation of learning support, academic integrity, and events-related data and other relevant statistics for reporting and quality assurance
  • Assist School Liaison Librarians to support academic staff by reviewing unit proposals and developing and maintaining subject LibGuides, as required.
  • Participate in rostered multi-modal frontline circulation, reference, and referencing services, ensuring high-quality customer experiences are delivered to library users
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of relevant policies and procedures and assist in ensuring application at all library sites.
  • Perform a range of library operations and contribute to the provision of various library services and initiatives as required

Essential criteria

  • Relevant qualifications and/or equivalent combination of experience and education/training
  • Highly level of administrative and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to use a range of information technology and software packages related to physical and digital collections, general business administration, and customer-facing creative/information technologies
  • Experience in the development and delivery of innovative face-to-face and online learning support programs and resources, and library events
  • A strong service ethic and service experience with an ability to respond professionally and sensitively
  • Experience in, or ability to develop skills in, providing information and reference consultations and advice, preferably in an academic or research library
  • An understanding of, and strong support of equal opportunity principles
  • A willingness to support the mission, values, and ethos of Avondale

Desirable criteria

  • Eligibility for Associate or Technician membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) or progress towards this qualification
  • Experience in an academic library environment or similar
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with relevant systems used to manage learning content, including Moodle, LibGuides, and SharePoint
  • Current Driver Licence Class C.

Salary: Avondale Higher Education Worker Level 4 $34.44 – $36.81 per hour, plus superannuation.
