The School of Engineering is one of the most research-intensive Schools within the University. The School offers Engineering degree programs in Aerospace Systems, Chemical, Civil, Computer Systems, Electrical and Electronic, Environmental, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Medical, and, Renewable Energy as well as degree programs in Surveying and Geospatial Engineering. The School is rated well above the sector average for quality of overall experience for undergraduate engineering students and for median salaries with more than 90% of our engineering undergraduates finding employment within 4 months of completing their studies. The School is proud to host various NU Teams engaging in activities such as NU Racing, NU Marine, NU Rocketry, and our newly established brewing team. These teams offer students valuable technical and professional skills within a simulated work environment. They enjoy immense popularity among students and are also highly regarded by our industry partners.

The University was established to serve the Hunter and Central Coast. The Hunter region is not only Australia’s largest regional economy, it has the greatest growth in NSW outside of the Sydney Basin. The Hunter region has the highest density of industry customers in Australia that need skills in aerospace systems engineering. The region is not only home to both the RAAF Base at Williamtown (the RAAF’s command, operations, and training base for the new F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)) and the Williamtown Aerospace Centre (WAC), it also hosts many of the systems integration companies that support new RAAF aircraft and projects. These offer many exciting opportunities for research and industrial collaboration. In addition to research collaborations, the School has well-established connections with industry through sponsored undergraduate students and student placements. The School is highly research active, contributing substantially to the overall research inputs and outputs of the College and University. This is reflected in the 2018 Excellence in Research in Australia outcomes where Electrical, Civil, Mechanical and Resource engineering FOR codes received an ERA5.

The University of Newcastle offers its academic staff a dynamic working environment, equipped with modern teaching & research facilities.
