Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Social Research
About the opportunity
The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Social Research will be an ongoing balanced teaching and research position, focused on the development and implementation of Social Research teaching and learning in the School of Social Sciences. The position may also involve teaching into substantive areas of the Sociology and/or Criminology program as required. The incumbent will be expected to lead Social Research teaching in the School as well as identify and develop collaborative opportunities for innovative and inter-disciplinary Social Research teaching/programs within the College of Arts, Law and Education and across other Colleges in the University.
Our ideal candidate will be outstanding in their own disciplinary tradition and enthusiastic about this chance to collaborate energetically with scholars across the social sciences and to work on research opportunities in Tasmania. Applicants should be confident working closely with policy communities. We anticipate that their research and teaching will consistently engage a range of different audiences, from the general public through to senior government decision-makers. We want to work with a team-builder and collaborator who is keen to develop connections within the University and beyond. Quantitative research skills/experience would be favorable.
What you’ll do:
- Make an effective and continual contribution to the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
- Conduct scholarly undergraduate and postgraduate coursework teaching of a high quality.
- Undertake high-quality research of national standing, secure external competitive and other funding.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of productive and effective links inside the University as well as locally and nationally with the discipline, relevant interdisciplinary domains, profession, industry and/or wider community.
- Provide academic leadership, particularly in fostering outstanding research and/or learning and teaching.
What we’re looking for:
- A PhD in sociology, criminology, Social Research methods, or a relevant cognate discipline.
- A sound record of and continuing commitment to research that has achieved national recognition and made worthwhile contributions to the field of Social Research within one or more social science discipline.
- An emerging record of research higher degree supervision, relevant to opportunity.
- Demonstrated experience in university-level Social Research teaching, learning and assessment of students.
- A record of building, maintaining, and contributing towards effective and productive links locally and nationally with the discipline, with relevant professional, industry and government organisations, and with the wider community.
Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level B/C and can have a total remuneration package of up to $173,682 comprising base salary within the range of $108,285 to $148,446 plus 17% superannuation.
