The opportunity
We have an exciting 12-month fixed term contract opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join our Trust, Legal and Compliance team (TLC). Within this role, you will provide strategic, high quality, timely and cost-effective legal services to the Dispute Resolution & Litigation team supporting Medibank's response to the cyber incident, including liaison with external law firms. Please note this is a parental leave cover.

You will impact in this role by:
Supporting the Senior Legal Counsel and General Counsel - Dispute Resolution & Litigation
Providing legal support in relation to the defence of a representative complaint to the OAIC, consumer class action and a shareholder class action
Assisting Medibank to operate in accordance with legislative requirements, regulations and internal policies, and to understand legal risks
Escalating to the Senior Legal Counsel and/or General Counsel - Dispute Resolution & Litigation issues of significance in a timely manner
Liaising with and assisting as required other lawyers and support staff in the TLC team
About you
You will have at least 1-4 years PQE and experience in litigation and proficiency in the delivery of legal services gained in private practice or within a large commercial law firm or the in-house legal team of a large organisation.
You will also have:
Experience providing legal advice and services to both operational staff and senior management
Exposure to class action or any cyber-related litigation experience would be preferred
Excellent ability to investigate, analyse and assess evidence in the context of litigation, including ability to identify key issues early and propose ways to mitigate or resolve issues
Exposure to a wide range of areas of litigation practice
Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) degree or equivalent
Admitted to practise law in an Australian State or Territory
Current practising certificate
Demonstrate high level of personal drive, integrity and independence
