Anglicare WA lead the award winning Home Stretch WA Trial, a co-design project that has created a service model that formed the basis of a $37 million State Government election commitment to improve the lives of young people transitioning from Out-Of-Home-Care.
The Home Stretch WA Community of Practice (CoP) team is working in close partnership with the Department of Communities to help roll out the Home Stretch WA Model across WA. It provides training, support, practice resources and a range of opportunities for people to contribute to the roll out Home Stretch across WA. The CoP is made up of people with learned expertise in helping professions, co-design, systems change, data analysis and child protection, who work in equal partnership with people with lived expertise in transitioning from care, Aboriginal culture, youth participation and advocacy.
About the role
This is a rare opportunity to be part of a team that is helping to improve the supports available to young people transitioning out of state care, helping to establish Home Stretch programs across the state that will allow young people the option to access an enhanced range of financial and personal supports from 17.5 to the age of 21.
The role and responsibilities of the Consultants - Lived Experience have been co-designed with young people from the Home Stretch WA Youth Advisory Group.
The consultants will work together, bringing expertise in youth advocacy, youth participation and a clear channel for the voice of young people to contribute to the ongoing design, development and delivery of the Home Stretch WA model.
These roles will be supported with access to training and mentoring through the Community of Practice team members, and staff from Create WA.
Lived Experience Consultants are valued for their expertise as young people who have experienced and navigated systems and services, and their ability to use that information to help inform how things should work. We value that part of you and will strive to ensure your Lived Experience is respected and supported. We will also work to make sure your experiences of Out-of-Home-Care are never used to define who you are.
Casual and part time positions are available. Part time positions are fixed term opportunities working 2 days (15 hours) per week until December 2024.
About the work
The work of the Lived Experience Consultants may include a wide range of tasks over the life of the CoP and is guided by the Home Stretch WA Youth Engagement Plan.
Some projects & tasks include;
Develop videos or youth friendly resources that help young people understand Home Stretch WA and how to access the service.
Create social media content and other media communication help keep young people informed about Home Stretch WA and the roll out.
Lead or co-facilitate the Home Stretch WA Youth Advisory Group & activities to ensure young people accessing the Home Stretch WA program have their own channel to ask questions, share ideas, feedback and provide guidance.
Work with the CoP team to help Home Stretch WA Providers understand the experiences of young people they are supporting and help them improve their service.
Support the CoP team to create interactive and practical training to youth workers and child protection staff delivering Home Stretch model in WA
Work with the Manager and Department of Communities to provide expert input and guidance into youth participation in governance of the Home Stretch reform.
About you
To apply to become a Lived Experience Consultant, you need to:
Be 19-26 years old and;
Have Lived Experience of transitioning from Out-of-Home-Care in WA
Be eligible to work in Australia.
Have some training or experience in advocacy or youth leadership
Have completed or be willing to complete Level 1, 2 and 3 of Create ‘Speak Up’ training or similar Advocacy or Leadership Training.
Be eligible for a WA Working With Children Check and provide a National Police Clearance
To do well in the role you also need to:
Be able to independently manage things like travel and getting to places on time;
Be ready to step up and be heard;
Have an interest in helping others express and describe the issues that are important to them;
Be ready and able to take on a challenge and to challenge others;
Have some good strategies for looking after yourself, particularly when confronted with some of the difficult and personal challenges of the child protection system;
Be comfortable working in teams and leading other young people;
Be able to work independently and at times remotely
Have the capacity to do some public speaking, or help deliver training or presentations;
Understand and be committed to working in ways that support equality, diversity and celebrate Aboriginal culture and community;
Have some skills in Microsoft Office suite and using social media as communications tool.
Experience in governance groups or advisory committees, facilitating or co-facilitating group activities or working alongside young people in peer support or volunteer roles would also be desirable.

Remuneration and benefits
Casual positions $45/hour
For part time positions
Work 2 days per week maximum term until December 2024.
$70,196 per annum (pro rata for hours worked) + 11% super + annual leave and personal leave
Tax-free salary packaging benefits up to $15,900 per annum may be available
