Baiada are seeking to fill the position of Livestock Area Manager at our Coleambally Poultry Breeder farms.

The position of Livestock Area Manager – Breeders is primarily responsible for achieving maximum productivity and liveability for all breeder Farms reporting to them (as measured against Key Performance Indicators), and ensuring that all work is carried out in a safe manner and adhere to Baiada standards and systems.

The breeder life cycle process includes shed set-up, chick placement, rearing/ production and cleanout operations on the breeder farms.

The position reports to the Regional Livestock Manager and has a working relationship with the farm management, cleanout crew, the maintenance staff, Baiada contractors and relevant livestock clerical staff from time to time. The Livestock Area Manager – Breeders is also responsible for the implementation and management of the Baiada workplace injury management system on the breeder farms.

Critical Skills and Experience Required:

  • Co-ordinate training and inductions of new farm management
  • Monitoring bird health and performance, ensuring an ongoing flow of data from farms to the livestock office in a timely and accurate fashion with specific regard to meeting deadline without fail.
  • Attend / conduct management and training meetings as required
  • Conduct safety / quality audits on company operations
  • Provide specific direction via on farm service reports
  • Be pro-active with feedback during performance appraisals
  • Supply operational direction to staff
  • Promote and correct decisions, regarding breeder farm operation, are made as and when required in conjunction with the Regional Livestock Manager.
  • The breeder farm and equipment are operated in a safe manner to their full capacity whilst ensuring that working life is maximised
  • Staffing levels are maintained at approved levels and are adjusted up and down to match farm requirements
  • Supervise and train staff in breeder production and farm practice, and all other requirements and document training.
  • Maintain company assets, biosecurity and general security on farms
  • Ensure all livestock are cared for with adequate feed, water, temperature and health monitoring to attain maximum potential concerting bird welfare
  • Documentation control and reporting to meet required time frames
  • Ensure bird weighting, feeding and all ancillary farm operations are carried out in accordance with the company documented procedures and instructions
  • Maintain records to demonstrate cost control and monitoring of bird health procedures.
  • Ensuring clean out is completed to company standards.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Proven animal husbandry skills
  • Previous experience in livestock management
  • Excellent communicator.
  • Proven skills in management of personnel, including conflict resolution and problem solving
  • A knowledge of Quality Systems, CoR policies and procedures, EMS and WHS procedures and good understanding of how day to day activities could impact on the Animal Welfare.
  • Understanding of the importance of following correct Biosecurity procedures
  • Experience in the poultry industry, specifically breeder farming
