Job description

As our Livestock Supervisor, you will:

  • Supervise a team on Spyglass Beef Research Facility to ensure delivery of effective and safe work environments, including oversight of after-hours and weekend duties.
  • Assist the Research Facility Manager in developing and implementing business plans to ensure provision of resources to support research, development and extension undertaken on or from Spyglass Beef Research Facility.
  • Assist the Research Facility Manager in developing and implementing a risk management program to comply with statutory and corporate compliance obligations including WH&S, environmental, pest and waste management, Fire Safety, Animal Welfare, Weapons Act, etc.
  • Implement operational and resource plans including service, repair and maintenance of resources including heavy plant and equipment, vehicles, machinery and equipment and built infrastructure.
  • In consultation, develop and implement property and livestock management plans including rotational programs, water supply and distribution, supplementation, animal husbandry and welfare in accordance with animal ethics standards for project and operational purposes.
  • Utilise technology programs, packages and systems to collect and interpret data to inform decision making in areas such as, quality assurance, resource usage, recording and record keeping, compliance, financial management, livestock and property management and reporting.
  • Lead your team to ensure the integrity of research, development and extension projects and activities are respected and deliver positive outcomes for industry through rigid adherence to scientific protocols and quality assurance principles.
  • Lead in a manner which develops a harmonious work team where work excellence, diligence, cooperation and inclusiveness are standard behaviour.
  • Continually develop and take responsibility for your own professional competencies and of the staff you supervise through performance capability planning and dedicated career development training programs.
  • Build and enhance networks and consultative relationships to foster good working relationships with key stakeholders.
