About the role 

We are currently seeking a Low Carbon Materials Strategy and Implementation Manager to join the Laing O’Rourke Australia hub / our Low Carbon Materials Team on a six-month secondment / fixed term contract. 

This role will be working with the Laing O’Rourke sustainability, technical and commercial stakeholders to develop and deliver materials-related decarbonisation strategy across the global organisation. This includes research, strategic planning, roadmap development, scoping and prioritisation of strategic sustainability initiatives and the delivery of these initiatives. 

 

Key responsibilities 

  • Support our materials decarbonisation strategy development (Scope 3 category 1) including research and exploratory work, roadmap development, prioritisation of initiatives for implementation as well as implementation and scaling. 

  • Design, monitor and report on one or more initiatives, including delivery of key outcomes 

  • Technical understanding and critical assessment of emerging products, technologies and business proposals suited to Scope 3 decarbonisation, particularly materials – mature and next gen. 

  • Challenge aspects that limit progress towards materials decarbonisation from a well-considered and evidence-based technical and practical perspective. 

  • Work with customers, suppliers, industry bodies and other organisations to explore low embodied carbon offerings that suit customer needs. 

  • Development of sound, evidence-based recommendations, delivered with compelling and effective communication. 

  • Leverage best practice for research, analysis, strategic planning, technical engineering and project/portfolio management and proactively knowledge share 

 

About you 

  • Experience in a technical, technology, innovation or consultancy role, ideally related to decarbonisation of infrastructure (design and /or materials). 

  • Engineering and/or relevant technical background, with preferred knowledge base across topics such as: Low Carbon products and construction materials (concrete and steel), clean technology, carbon accounting 

  • Excellent communication skills, knowledge sharing, stakeholder engagement skills  

  • Ability to navigate complexity, learn new information, excellent self-management.
