Rising Sun Pictures are now recruiting for Machine Learning Developers, of different experience levels, to join our Visual Effects studio in Adelaide.

Position Overview
You will be responsible for creating and delivering Machine Learning tools and workflows to meet creative, efficiency and technical goals. Your development will contribute to;

• Creative tasks that utilise Machine Learning tools and techniques to contribute directly to the creation of on-screen visual effects.
• Creation of new capabilities
• Workflow & efficiency improvements
• Integrations that allow broader utilisation of Machine Learning tools and workflows.

Although the creation of Visual Effects is where most of our current Machine Learning capabilities reside, any area of the studio that can benefit from Machine Learning is within scope of this role, giving you freedom to explore, propose and drive innovation.

Knowledge in the use and application of PyTorch (or similar) is crucial when considering this role.

You are required to work collaboratively with staff across many disciplines including the research team, software development team and artistic departments.  You are a great communicator who collaborates well with stakeholders to gain an understanding of current capabilities and workflows and ultimately use your knowledge of Machine Learning to be able to devise techniques and technology that can help improve, adapt or expand current capability.

You have excellent time management skills and are a forward thinker who can deliver products to schedule and to brief. Your ability to own your work from concept to product delivery will be highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Create and deliver Machine Learning software and workflows that meet creative and/or technical objectives, while always maintaining appropriate standards and best practices.
• Maintain knowledge of current state of Machine Learning based approaches and technology.
• Work with key stakeholders to appropriately scope projects prior to implementation and to develop proof of concepts, or prototypes, as required.
• Improve the integration of the Machine Learning capabilities within the studio.
• Appropriately design, implement, maintain, test and document all applications, utilities or components developed.
• Own Machine Learning projects as assigned or agreed to by your manager.
• Drive projects you are responsible for towards completion. Proactively follow up on outstanding items, changing requirements and blockers to ensure that constant progress is made.  

Required Competencies, Skills and Experience

• Batchelor’s Degree or equivalent in Computer Science with a specialty in Machine Learning
• Minimum 1+ years of development work in Machine Learning, with more experience qualifying for higher positions.
• Excellent knowledge of Machine Learning techniques and toolsets such as PyTorch (or similar)
• Good knowledge of python software development
• Great organisational skills, maintaining a calm and professional demeanour in a delivery focused work environment.
• Technical and creative problem solving with a can-do mindset.
• Enjoy working in and contributing to a supportive and collaborative team environment.
• Skills in any of the following areas will set your application apart:
  • Generative image/3D models, e.g. Diffusion, GANs, and navigating/disentangling latent space and image attributes
  • Model fitting and estimation- e.g. pose tracking
  • NeRFs / new-view synthesis
• Experience in the following is advantageous but not essential:
  • Computer vision - image processing, structure from motion
  • Graphics experience, e.g. OpenGL
  • Working knowledge of the VFX pipeline
