Job description

A prestigious private Club within the CBD requires an experienced full time Maître d' / Restaurant SUPERVISOR to join their team.

We are looking for a well-groomed and presented individual, with proven food and beverage skills as evidenced by previous posts held.

The individual chosen will be entrusted with the responsibility of achieving this expectation, as well as ensuring all team members on shift perform at a high level.  The individual will be an effective communicator, display leadership qualities and have an eye for detail; ensuring Members’ expectations are not only met but exceeded.

A strong hands-on approach is required at all times. Hours of work will be to suit Club needs, although there is some possibility for flexibility in days/hours of employment.

The ideal candidate for the role must be a career focused person, have a background in restaurant or club operations, have strong food & beverage knowledge, be motivated and able to lead the team through day to day operations, and have a strong focus on maintaining the highest level of service whilst supervising all aspects of the day to day operations.

Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Perform supervisory and operational duties across the Food and Beverage/Front of House evening operation, including Member liaison, facility presentation, service standards, flow of service, Employee rostering, product presentation, to ensure high standards are attained
  • Plan and organise the set-up of events and functions in accordance with the Members’ / Club’s requirements and to act as duty Supervisor responsible for the running of events, functions and other dining areas as and when required
  • Ensure effective delegation of Employees to provide high‑level service of all food and beverage items at all times
  • Ensure a team approach is delivered and reinforced
  • Conduct pre‑shift inspections, ensuring that Food and Beverage areas are set up according to floor plans and mis‑en‑place standard requirements
  • Ensure that Employees to guest ratios are adequate and not excessive, and notify the Food and Beverage Manager immediately of any issues
  • Coach, train and mentor Employees regularly
  • React to all issues passed on by Employees, as maintenance, stock levels etc
  • Assist with Employees training and development
  • Ensure personal compliance and the compliance of all Employees with the Club’s Code of Conduct, Standards of Conduct and other internal policies and procedures
  • Ensure knowledge of all Club functions, events, promotions and activities, and provide this information to Members and Employees as required
  • Ensure attention to detail and cleanliness of work areas, including polishing cutlery and glassware
  • Ensure a thorough knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety standards including emergency evacuation and armed hold‑up procedures
  • Ensure your own safety and those working around you
  • Notify Management of all hazards, incidents and accidents within the workplace ensuring the safety of Employees and Members at all times
  • Provide a detailed, daily briefing to all relevant Employees before service and allocate labour resources effectively throughout the operation
  • Liaise daily with the Food and Beverage Manager and Functions Coordinator ensuring all required duties are carried out effectively including all administrative tasks and PC based work

The position is full time, 5 days per week over a 6 Day Roster (Monday to Saturday; with midday, evening & nights included), with two days off.

Australian citizenship or permanent residence status essential. Responsible Person Badge and Police Clearance within last 12 months required.
