About the Opportunity
We have a brand-new role available for a Manager of Aboriginal Workforce and Development who is  proactive, passionate and relationship focused, to join our fun and dynamic People and Culture team.  

Reporting to the Director of People and Culture and working alongside the Aboriginal Health directorate, you will drive, develop and implement Aboriginal Workforce Development initiatives, to assist with closing the gap for better Aboriginal Health outcomes and reach our set target of 13% Aboriginal workforce representation and retention.

This is a great opportunity, where you can make a real difference to our communities and FWLHD, using your community connections, relationships and expertise of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islanders, leading key activities to grow and expand partnerships/networks, promoting opportunities to attract, develop and uplift the capabilities of our Aboriginal workforce within FWLHD.

Some other initiatives you will work include but is not limited to:

  • In consultation with the Director People and Culture, this position will lead the implementation of Aboriginal workforce and cultural strategies as well as specific projects/programs aligned with the district's planning framework and workforce plans and strategies.
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to promote and ensure Aboriginal employment and culturally safe work environments are core business across all Directorates within the Far West LHD while leading work to establish the LHD's reputation as an employer of choice for Aboriginal People.

Far West LHD is the lead NSW Government agency for providing high quality public health services to meet the needs of our diverse communities.  Far West are seeking applications/applicants for the position/s funded under the Elsa Dixon Aboriginal Employment Grant. The Elsa Dixon Aboriginal Employment Grant is an Aboriginal Initiative funded by the governing body Training Services NSW.

How to Apply

To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria in the application as thoroughly as possible:

  • Be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent. Being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait islander is a genuine occupational qualification for this position as described under Section 14 (d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act, 1977 (NSW).
  • Tertiary qualifications in a health-related field and/or equivalent experience working in senior health management.
  • Able to form collaborative working arrangements to positively influence internal and external senior stakeholders to achieve best outcomes within available resources.
  • Experienced in project management of Aboriginal Workforce programs or initiatives, including the capacity to establish and maintain relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Have highly effective oral and written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to provide advice and options to all levels of staff and management.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team to deliver a successful Aboriginal workforce service to clients which is both responsive to the specific cultural needs of Aboriginal staff, contemporary workforce issues and focused on achieving corporate goals.
  • Demonstrated high degree of initiative and ability to deliver quality results.
