About This Opportunity  

We are seeking for a UQ Ventures Manager for the day-to-day operation and ongoing development of UQ’s suite of entrepreneurship programs and events, with a focus on ideation and validation (programs) and increasing opportunities for students. 

This role develops comprehensive program materials to support learning outcomes and facilitate outreach activities. This position also will supervise team members, oversee communication and engagement with UQ’s entrepreneurship mentor network, internal and external stakeholders, and coordinate activities of the Chief Student Entrepreneur and Ventures Ambassadors.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and deliver an annual calendar of events for Ventures, including program and promotional materials, and resourcing plan in line with the Entrepreneurship Strategy.

  • Deliver the Ventures programs in their current or future approved format, including Curiosity, LeadHers, Validate, Sustainability, Food Innovation Challenge, Hackathons, etc.

  • ​Work with the Head, UQ Ventures to engage and coordinate relevant Entrepreneurs-in-Residence and speakers to effectively support the program participants.

  • Deliver high quality programs, workshops and events as indicated by strong support from the local ecosystem stakeholders and UQ community and positive audience feedback.

  • Engage broadly with key stakeholders in the early stage / startup eco-system to ensure that Ventures programs are recognised by, respond to and influence the dynamics of the local startup eco-system.

  • Work with Ventures’ broader support functions including Operations, Community Management and Communications functions to deliver events, PR, marketing and event outcomes to reach Ventures key constituencies of potential clients, investors and stakeholders and to promote future program interests.

  • Maintain contact with Ventures program alumni to develop ongoing alumni founder community, and to track achievements such as employment, growth, investment, exits and other relevant information over time.

  • Engage with UQ’s teaching and learning community to increase Ventures “pop-up” guest lectures as part of UQ’s curricular courses.

  • Support UQ Venture’s team of facilitators to develop engaging workshops and continue to improve student engagement across all Ventures offerings.

  • Oversee and own UQ Venture’s main KPI and ensure plans and strategies are in place to achieve it.

This is a Full-time, 100%FTE Continuing position.  At HEW Level 8, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range of $108,975.08 to $122,176.31 plus a generous super allowance of 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $127,500.84 to $142,946.29 per annum.  


About You
  • A postgraduate degree in business, entrepreneurship, or innovation management and / or equivalent substantial experience in a relevant area.

  • Extensive experience and functional management in program development and delivery of ideation and validation programs and experience and understanding in inspiring, motivating and engaging with students to build entrepreneurial skills and mindset.

  • A strong understanding of entrepreneurial skills and mindset, along with extensive experience in delivering workshops across the breadth of content supporting entrepreneurial learning such as design thinking, lean startup methodologies, pitching and latest trends.

  • Demonstrated experience in designing entrepreneurship and/or sustainability programs for a tertiary education institution.

  • Strong network of contacts and collaborations amongst local, national and global entrepreneurship eco-systems including startup founders, corporates, mentors and investors with demonstrated experience in developing networks, building relationships and operationalising partnerships that deliver high quality outcomes for UQ and the program participants.

  • Demonstrated communication and negotiation skills including the ability to liaise, negotiate and work with staff and stakeholders at all levels.

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare complex documentation and communicate and facilitate with diverse groups within and external to higher education institutions.

  • Excellent staff management, planning and organisational skills, including a demonstrated ability to multi- task, prioritise, establish work priorities, meet timelines, and manage multiple complex projects, programs and events simultaneously with exceptional attention to detail.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of University policies, procedures, organisation structures and functions, or capacity to rapidly gain such knowledge.

  • Knowledge of the current and emerging issues in Australian and International tertiary education sector, as well as an understanding of the Australian Government’s objectives for entrepreneurship and innovation.

  • Experience working with higher education institutions to deliver multi-disciplinary projects and programs.

  • Experience working with Project Management tools and processes.
