The Position

The Manager Health, Safety & Environment provides strategic direction and leadership of the Yurika Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) function, driving the creation of a strong safety culture which prioritises continuous improvement in safety and wellbeing performance.

The position leads the development of strategies, plans, policies and practices and the provision of expert advice and direction to Yurika senior management and will work closely with operational leaders to deliver fit for purpose HSE outcomes.
The position has accountability for the management of day to day operational requirements, as well as ensuring the Yurika HSE management system supports the activities of the business.

This is a permanent position and can be located in any major centre (Queensland). This is an Above Award Level Two position. 

Some of your responsibilities include:

  • Build a high performing team through effectively engaging with teams and setting short and long term performance objectives for the team, fostering team capability and talent, coaching leaders in the delivery of results and instilling a high standard of accountability.
  • Leading a team of both office and site-based safety, environment and cultural heritage professionals, performance of the team is critical to the successful delivery of a wide range of complex services associated with large scale, geographically dispersed Engineering, Procurement and Construction of Electrical balance of plant in the renewable sector, national metering services and telecommuincations markets.
  • Build strong relationships to collaborate and influence the Yurika operational leaders to ensure positive HSE outcomes/culture.
  • Ensure Yurika has appropriate risk management and compliance strategies, systems and processes in place in relation to Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Cultural Heritage.
  • Develop, implement and report on a HSE Audit and Assurance process and annual plan.
  • Lead all aspects of HSE and Cultural Heritage management, including project establishment, planning, resourcing, works co-ordination, contractual and project governance in relation to HSE matters, and ensuring that all work delivered is fit-for-purpose, acceptable to the key stakeholders and also aligned with current market expectations.
  • Accountable for a robust Yurika HSE Management system to ensure positive HSE outcomes, with the aim of the management system becoming accredited to internal standards.
  • Lead and be accountable for the development of HSE materials to support in the tendering and execution of works, including project specific HSE management plans, safe work method statements, project risk registers, project specific procedures, training materials and HSE reports.
  • Development of Yurika Board HSE reports, including representing Yurika at Board level as required. Lead and be involved in incident investigations and audit activities.
  • Development of annual HSE actions plan, audit plans, performance reports and other governance deliverables.
  • Collaborates effectively managing information and confidentiality requirements across Energy Queensland Limited in accordance with applicable ring-fencing parameters.
  • Demonstrate a strong personal commitment to health, safety and environment and support a diverse and inclusive workplace.
  • Compliance with all relevant legislation, policies, procedures and practices.

About you

You have significant experience at a senior level in a large organisation in HSE management. Furthermore, you have experience in leading, managing and developing all aspects of HSE across major capital projects, including supporting management systems documentation including proven experience in the delivery of HSE inputs and outcomes in a major projects’ environment.
You have experience with the development of assurance and governance processes/documentation, including annual action and annual audit plans and enterprise and project level HSE risk registers
You have proven skills and extensive experience in leadership, organisational change and systems development and management as pertaining to HSE in capital infrastructure projects and operations.
You display a commitment to maintain contemporary knowledge of current HSE standard, legislation and corporate responsibilities.
You have extensive knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework in which the energy and construction industries operate in Australia, current industry reforms and strategies for business success in this environment or the ability to gain in-depth knowledge of the sector rapidly.
You have demonstrated experience in the development of policies and procedures relating to HSE in infrastructure construction projects You have exceptional knowledge of and commitment to Occupational Health and Safety, security and the environment.
You are an effective teamwork role model using highly effective relationship management and influencing skills that results in with peers to drive overall success.

Essential

  • Degree qualification in an appropriate discipline (e.g. health, safety, engineering) or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • C Class driver’s license.
  • No less than 10 years experience within workplace health & safety and environment positions.
  • Relevant industry experience such as construction, mining and/or energy.
  • Leading large teams (greater than 15)

Desirable
  • Under graduate or Post Graduate qualifications in Project/Construction management.
