about the role

Chevron Australia has an exciting opportunity for a Marine Pilot Loading Master to join the ABU Marine Operations team. Reporting to Wheatstone Marine Superintendent, this permanent role will be based in Chevron’s Wheatstone Gas Plant Onslow and/or Gorgon Gas Plant Barrow Island on an attractive rotational roster.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Primary responsibility is the safety critical role of Marine Pilot Loading Master to manage risk and safety in terminal operations, providing Marine Pilotage and Loading Master expertise to vessels for LNG and Condensate cargos within the port
  • Act as on-board Terminal Representative to coordinate all transfer operations between the export vessels and the terminal
  • Manage the efficient use of the Tug and Pilot Boat/s and the safe transfer of personnel and equipment to/from vessels under pilotage in accordance with International & Chevron standards
  • Ensure that the vessel complies with safe cargo loading and operating practices as per terminal regulations
  • Monitor the performance of Aids to Navigation
  • As part of loadmaster duties, the individual understands vessel compatibility and clearance processes and can identify potential issues
  • Compile and/or review procedures, operating manuals, check lists and templates for Terminal marine operations

To be considered for this role, applicants should have:

  • Australian Master Unrestricted Certificate of Competency or equivalent
  • Experience on LNG carriers/Oil tankers in senior capacity will be preferred
  • Ship handling and/or Marine Pilotage skills will be preferred
  • Knowledge of LNG/Oil shipboard operations 
  • Knowledge of relevant international, national, and state maritime regulations
  • Experience in risk and safety management in terminal operations
  • Experience working with various cultural backgrounds and professional disciplines and the ability to work under pressure in a team environment.
