About the role

A full-time permanent position has become available within the Trading & Treasury Risk (TTR) team at AGL. Based in Melbourne, you will provide thought leadership in the methodology to measure, monitor and report the Market Risk for AGL’s gas, oil, green electricity and FX positions, with a focus on the green portfolio. You will provide subject matter expertise in financial contract valuations including maintenance of market forward price curves and other related market data as well as utilise quantitative models and methodologies to measure and quantify Market Risks.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Risk Analytics Manager, you will:

  • Develop, implement and maintain appropriate risk analysis tools that support the Wholesale Markets function and the Risk Policies.
  • Work closely with the Portfolio Growth team to assist in any short, medium or long term modelling, including assessment of impact of market, policy and regulatory changes.
  • Implementing and assist the Risk Analytics Manager in formalising the methodology and implementing key risk and P&L attribution measures for Integrated Energy portfolio, including “at risk” measures.
  • Provide daily monitoring of market price curves (forward and spot) that are used by the business for valuation purposes.
  • Develop a set of tools/reports to assist with reviewing price curves.  Review and maintain thresholds for reviewing price inputs.
  • Formalising processes around maintaining long term (non-market) price curves for valuation purposes.
  • Responsible for the production of forward curves as well as any other market data that is required for valuation or position reporting purposes.
  • Contribute to Risk Management Committee and other Governance body reporting.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation of all Wholesale Markets Risk systems and processes.
  • Work closely with the Wholesale Markets Origination, Trading and Portfolio Growth teams to build strong working relationships.

About you

What you’ll bring to the table

  • Experience in applying mathematical solutions to risk analytical/modelling requirements.
  • Excellent quantitative analysis skills, including the development and application of mathematical solutions to modelling market factors.
  • Proficiency in quantitative analysis, statistical techniques, and risk modelling.
  • Intermediate Excel and SQL skills. Knowledge of a programming language a plus (Python, R, VBA).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey complex risk concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Prior experience in energy trading, commodities markets, or Market Risk management is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of energy markets, including electricity, natural gas, oil, and renewable energy markets beneficial.
  • Experience with data visualisation tools such as Power BI and Tableau beneficial.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a quantitative or business discipline required.
